My Newest sewing space.

I have had my space all over the house. My long arm has to be in our bedroom (only room big enough). The rest of my stuff was in our office that I share with my husband. He now works from home and really needs more space so I moved my sewing stuff to our front hall (about 8x10) since my bedroom is close and the dining room closer. I usually use the dining room table for cutting. There is good natural and overhead light in the dining room. Anyway, here are some pictures of my "space". I have my unspoken for fabric in the elfa drawers with plastic liners to try to keep the dog hair out of it. The drawers move easily so I can pull a set over to my sewing desk if I want a small space to press. My sewing desk is on wheels and easily pulls out if I want to use the desk top on the back of it. One white cabinet holds scrapbooking stuff and some supplies. One white cabinet holds my serger, large yardage pieces, templates and rulers, and two boxes with UFOs. The boxes on the top shelf have bindings, project fabrics, and some are even empty waiting for new stuff. The most important picture is of the ceiling fan my hub and I installed today. Lighting has always been a challenge for my space. I am very blind without bright light. I put those bright white light bulbs in the light fixture and with my ott floor lamp and the bendy light on my machine I can actually see. The only things I have left are to make a slip cover for my chair and a small rag rug at the door. We have laminate floors throughout the house because of the dogs so everything moves easily. I managed to bind two baby quilts today too. I really hate to bind quilts.

LOVE IT! Your desk is gorgeous, and you're so organized :)
Oh, the dog hair. It gets everywhere, doesn't it? Gah. I'm constantly asking myself, "how the heck did dog hair get in there?" lol. I hate binding too :P the only thing I like about binding is that it means I'm almost done! |
Very nice room!!

I want your wonderful lamp.........is that an OTT light? I keep reading about them........I want one !!
|
@4dogs- it is an ott light rip off I bought from Big lots. The Ott brand name are too expensive.
|
Very nice! I love finally having my own sewing room. I still do not have all of my stuff in there...in fear of messing it up.

Very nice room. I LOVE your sewing desk. I like the fact that the sewing machine fits down into the desk. Did you find the desk like that or was it a project??
Have a blessed day. debra |
Very nice sewing space. enjoy.
|
Great room. Love the baby quilt.
|
Awesome! You can put a lot in the pretty boxes too!

Debra, that desk was a sewing table so the hole was there. It was an ugly brown and the extention table on the back of my table used to fold over the hole. I moved the supports to the sides of the table and turned the hinges so the extention can hang down in the back. It has wheels on it and I have laminate floors so I can easily pull it out and use the whole table if necessary. I sanded and painted it but the top is sort of laminated so it didn't take the paint as well and I had to make a table insert around my existing machine to make the table level.

Looks GREAT! :) I really love the sunny yellow walls! :) :) :)
|
great space, wanna come help me organize? hehe
|
Wow, your space looks great. How do you manage to keep it so organized and clean?
|
Thanks for the pictures. When I lose my incentive when switching my small sewing room to the larger one, I can now look at what you've done and realize that I can have an area like yours. I finally realized that I was working "wrongly" (is there such a word?). I have been working on getting the room-to-be organized so I can move things elsewhere in the house; now I realize I should have started with the current sewing room and pack it so I have space where I can move the unneeded items from the new room. Now, does that make any sense? any, that's enough for now. I need to continue packing the smaller room.

I drool for those Elfa drawers! Love your space.
