My sewing room

6 Attachment(s)
I am lucky to have a room off my living room that I use for sewing. It is not fancy, but works for me. The dresser is full of fabric as well as the boxes in the closet. Found the cutting table at a thrift store for $25. The sides fold down and it has a drawer. Love thrift stores. Thanks for looking. :)

You are lucky to have a whole sewing room to yourself. I have what I quaintly refer to as my " sewing nook" which is half a room and the other half is the rec. room. The only thing I would change is using the curtains on your closet for a design wall.

nanacc 01-18-2015 10:20 AM

Great room! I like your wall hangings also..I did the bear and matching pillow for my DGS(I call him Bear).

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I do plan on using that space for a design wall. I was able to get a tube left over from Walmart that had vinyl on it. I have some flannel that I will attach and hang it up in front of the curtain when I need to use it.

Your space (sewing room) is great. I especially like the chair. Did you recover it? Thanks for sharing.

I like the way you used the rope on the spool holder. Need only 1 wall hanger to hold it. I think I will do this on mine.

Yes, I did. Didn't do a very good job. Had some old quilted material. Got the chair from a thrift shop and got tired of the black fabric it had. Serves its purpose though.

That is a very nice sewing room. Mine is not fancy either, but no one knows that after they get a quilt. I've said many times, nobody cares what the pen looked like when you sign your name.

tessagin 01-18-2015 03:32 PM

Love your room! Giving me a few ideas! Your bear wall hanging is a reverse applique, I've seen so often and I still don't get tired of looking at it. Love your wall hangings!

I am in the process of cleaning up my sewing "area" and have relegated part of the basement as storage for my stuff - all in plastic boxes, hand labeled. I am down to the end with my last set of drawers which contain my Amish fabric. Three drawers full of solid colors. I have been separating all my fabrics according to color, print or solid, batik, fat quarters, over 1/4 yd but less than one, over 1/2 yd but less than two, etc. It is working. I am working to get this all ready for my new boarders - in the NE corner of my sewing area, I am going to hang a bird cage with two finches!!!!. Have them named - girl finch is Biddy and boy finch is Bubba!!!! (Only because in my old age watching old tv shows, I like Bubba "In the Heat of the Night". I will probably be getting them in a few months. I have two parakeets, but a parakeet will learn the song of a Finch (Zebra Finch) and with Bess, the dog, I should have quite the menagerie. I am learning how to make seed catchers for bird cages. I had forgotten (from childhood) that parakeets spit the shell of the seed and Old Lady Edie has to vacuum the area twice a day! My birds and the dog have B names - Bess is my avatar - she just turned 12, Bitz and BiBi (stands for Big Bird (he's yellow). Bitz in animal and bird names means "Cute". She is a pretty blue grey and is kind of laid back. But she can squawk with the best of them. After 54 years of living in a birdless home, I discovered that I have an allergy to the dust on the feathers of the parakeets.....sneeze, cough.....but I take an antihistamine/decongestant and am doing just great. I talk to them. Bess gets very upset when I take the cover off the cage in the morning. So, that is the story of what I am doing in my sewing room. I have my machine, my plastic cabinets, my cd player and my dog and birds. Bess likes to lay under the sewing table and curls herself in there when I sew. This togetherness is something else. Oh yah, I have one of those see-through bird houses on my window, this year am waiting for a wren, or maybe a Chickadee, more likely than not a sparrow. My windows have two clusters of grapes hanging (actually they are Christmas ornaments) and sun catchers. It is a very special place for me. And I love it.
When it is really nice and clean and I can look at a drawer and see if it says Thread or Sewing Machine Attachments and know which drawer to pull out and put it back in the right place. I do have a tendency not to put things back exactly where they belong and hopefully this will do the trick. Next I'll do the dresser drawers and the kitchen cabinets. Ha Ha!!!!! Have a good day. Edie PS - I do NOT plan to do this again!!!!!!!

awesome space, looks warm and bright!

coopah 01-19-2015 05:49 AM

That's a lovely room! Lots of space to work and enjoy. The chest is a terrific find! I know a gal who buys furniture at the thrift store, sands it and spray paints it. You'd never know! Enjoy that special room!

callen 01-19-2015 05:53 AM

Great spot & you have made it so functional !!

lorimax5859 01-19-2015 08:08 AM

What a great sewing room! Love it!

quiltnut4ever 01-19-2015 08:18 AM

Love the sunlight that streams in!

lots2do 01-19-2015 01:50 PM

I love to look at other people's sewing spaces. You look very organized in your set up. Enjoy it!

Sandi.G 01-19-2015 02:05 PM

Love your chair! Did you DIY it?

gramquilter2 01-19-2015 04:52 PM

You have a great room to create in.

jeanne49 01-19-2015 05:02 PM

Nice room, it's great to have an entire room just for sewing. While growing up my Mother always had a sewing room and when we purchased this house my one requirement was that I had a room just for my sewing, actually quilting. I need to change things aroung again because I have the same cutting table as you found at the thrift store and the way the room is now I can only have 1 side up and it's turned to where I have trouble getting to the drawer.

Caswews 01-19-2015 07:05 PM

As long as you are happy with your space ...does it matter what others think ? Its yours and that is what counts in life !

I think its a great sewing room !! Have fun and enjoy it !!! OH and take your favorite beverage hot or cold with you and enjoy just a few minutes sitting there sipping and relishing the moment. Then get busy sewing, quilting, crafting or whatever.. ENJOY !!!

jmoore 01-20-2015 04:39 AM

great sewing space... it appears you have utilized the space well for all of your sewing needs. I hope you get plenty of enjoyment in your sewing room.

rilene 01-20-2015 07:27 AM

I love your set-up! And you have great light, too!

leighway 01-20-2015 08:12 AM

What I really like is how you moved items that are used often right into the famous corner between two tables. Normally, those spaces just end up with clutter and whatever. This way every inch of your work space is useful.

Jingle 01-20-2015 10:54 AM

Lucky you on the thrift store table. A big space and will be so useful. Nice sewing room.

psumom 01-20-2015 12:42 PM

I have the exact same table which came with a mat that covers the whole top. I also got mine for $25 from a lady who was moving out of her house to travel the country with her husband in a motor home. I don't know what I'd do without it. My friends all come to my place to baste quilts on it...works perfectly!

mjhaess 01-20-2015 04:04 PM

Great use of space....

csharp 01-20-2015 04:39 PM

Love the idea of hanging the thread on the wall...mine is like that but is standing on the top of a cabinet...I could use that space for something else and get the thread closer to my work areas. Love to see other peoples spaces for sewing. Thanks for sharing.

Judith1005 01-20-2015 04:47 PM

Wow, that is a great room. You have some great organization going. I bet it is a really fun place to create. It looks like you get great light.

Mariposa 01-21-2015 09:59 AM

Terrific room! Lots of space and sunshine! :)

Oklahoma Suzie 01-21-2015 11:24 AM

I am very lucky, I have my own room too. I like the way you have yours.

Hi Edie:

Your studio sounds delightful and friendly! My daughter has a African Gray that talks your head off. She has a large standing cage and has put it in a child's plastic pool (empty of course) to catch all the seed hulls and feathers and stuff. Her husband takes it out side and sprays it with bleach and water to clean it. She also has a Macaw that walks all over the house (actually is house broken) She lives in the shower in the guest room. They have a roost for her in there and at bedtime (6 PM) she goes in there and my daughter closes the shower curtain and she goes to sleep. They live in Fla. and have a huge cage for her out on the screened in porch and she goes out there and spends the day in the sun and loves the rain… Birds are a lot of company and I'm sure you's will make you happy!!

Hi Nanacc: Your studio is so big and very functional! I would love to have that much space. You are so blessed...

sewellie 01-21-2015 08:53 PM

Did you make your chair cover? I really like that. Is it a pattern or did you make it up? Thanks/.
