Interesting concept

Just think of the shelving and closed doors. can't get them much cheaper esp if you go to a place that is selling the floor model on clearance.

My dh, for my sewing room, put in a base cabinet (unfinished from Home Depot - cheap)- stained it, put on wood top, sanded beautifully, painted it the color of the walls in the room, which serves as my cutting table. So I ended up with a deep, two door cabinet, which I use as storage for my fabric, and a wonderfully wide drawer for "stuff". Now you are probably wondering how I could store all my fabric in a cabinet -well, I'm not a stash builder. In fact, I worry about all the strips and pieces I have left over, and fabric that I haven't used yet. Guess I'm not your typical quilter.

I love your idea! You're right - you don't always need the depth of a lower kitchen cabinet.

I told my husband about how folks here thought it was a good idea, but he didn't but did it anyways
I posted a pic of where I keep my quilting fabric. We used unfinished upper cabinets, stack 3 high. It fits the narrow space, perfect for me

Awesome!! The inside depth is around 10-11" so no wasted space. They take up less floor space too, dont you find?? Love your set up!

Hmm this making me rethink what I want to do. I have a cutout between 2 closets in my sewing room that has my husbands desk in. Thinking I need to take his desk out and put some cabinets there.

Great idea - I have found (when looking for bookcases) that it is really hard to find things that aren't as deep. 10 -11" is better than 15+ in my experience.

I wanted to do this with the cabinets salvaged from our old kitchen. But it turns out that every narrow cabinet that would have been tall enough is a weird shape that wouldn't work well in my space. Just my luck. I was planning to use a base cabinet for my ironing area but it's way too deep so I'm using my Jetmax cubes I bought from Michaels. I'll just have to bolt them together somehow. I feel so thrifty using stuff I already had but liked my original vision better. lol
