New Cabinets and cleaned up quilting room

7 Attachment(s)
I bought 2 new kitchen cabinets at Home Depot and my brother helped me to put tops on them. One with a used kitchen island cabinet which I use for cutting and pressing. The other has a plywood top he cut to size and then secured the tracks for my HandiQuilter. Both are on wheels so I can easily move them to the walls or out in the center where the light is better. LOVE them and being able to move them for cleaning and better use.

Photos include my quilting assistants who accompany me to the out-building where I have my quilting room. I love my space and am grateful every day for it. Some day when I think I have earned the right, I am going to call it my quilting studio...

Grandma Jane 03-17-2012 01:42 PM

Oh, I think you have earned the right!! Nice set up!

Tartan 03-17-2012 02:33 PM

I'd be calling it my quilting palace right now! Great quilting area and cupboards.

spartan quilter 03-17-2012 02:36 PM

So much space, and all the cabinets for organization. I agree, it looks like a quilting palace. Enjoy the space.

Christine27 03-17-2012 02:38 PM

That looks like a beautiful setup! It is definitely a wonderful studio space!

Lizzytish 03-17-2012 02:39 PM

Great area. Yippee for you!

cindyg19 03-17-2012 02:50 PM

HELP! I finally got started. Right now I have my quilting table in my bedroom so it is out of the way and most of my (former) sewing room cleaned out, I finally looked into the room I'm moving my sewing room into. Yee gads. I've got more stuff in there than I thought I had in my house. I need encouragement, lots of it. It looks like this will never get finished.

Quilterfay 03-17-2012 03:10 PM

How many quilting buddies do you have? I think I counted 4??? Beautiful studio. You are lucky to have so much room.

Sewfine 03-17-2012 03:36 PM

:) Have to agree - how about the Quilting Palace Studio? Looks like you have a terrific setup and I like all your helpers.

solstice3 03-18-2012 05:31 AM

VERY nice. Wish I had that much space.

Whigrose 03-18-2012 05:35 AM

How lucky to have a quilting space independent of the living space. Sure makes it easier to close the door behind you and walk away:)

You've got yourself a great studio.

best,
d

Very Nice Sewing Palace. You are very LUCKY.

DeneK 03-18-2012 11:38 AM

Thanks for all the great comments. Yes, I do feel like it is my quilting palace. Not very fancy and it is a very rustic looking outbuilding, but it has wonderful space - heat and a/c - bathroom - place for coffee maker, microwave, and small fridge. I couldn't ask for more and I seriously feel gratitude for it every day.

danece 03-18-2012 12:06 PM

NICE!!!!, You have a studio of your own

Nanaquilts44 03-18-2012 01:03 PM

Great job and lots of storage! What a wonderful space you have.

suelovesquilts 03-18-2012 03:08 PM

Great space! Are those Bichons? Too cute!

carolynjo 03-18-2012 03:21 PM

Congratulations on your well-organized QUILTING STUDIO!

Country1 03-18-2012 04:47 PM

Nice and I love the fur babies!... Our home would not be complete without our 4 fur babies!....

Jackie R 03-18-2012 05:24 PM

Looks great - you already earned the right to call it your "Studio". Have fun!

bjnicholson 03-18-2012 05:40 PM

It's about 10 times the space I have and it surely looks like a "studio" to me!

Denise_the_Quilt_Lady 03-18-2012 06:42 PM

I love it! You deserve a pat on the back. by the way I do have one question. the white things around the legs of the dresser.... are they for protection from your assistants? or is there another reason i am clueless about?

ranbro 03-19-2012 03:50 AM

Wow-that is one huge space. One day for me perhaps.

bunbytes 03-19-2012 04:22 AM

I am so jealous! You have so much space. Is this in a basement? I miss basements - we don't do basements in Houston, unless you want an indoor swimming pool!

margee 03-19-2012 05:35 AM

Enjoy your space. It's nice to have so much room for all of you and the quilting stuff. Along with br, mini kitchen, a/c and heat.

Yes they are... 5 of our crew are Bichons. They are my most favorite breed. Such friendly, loving little guys.

Everything could use a little protection from the assistants... LOL! But the dresser is really a coffee table and the white things are lifts to raise the height to something I could use to put the computer equipment on. The coffee table used to sit under the folding table which held the HandiQuilter and the white lifts were under the table legs to make the table a working height. Now there is no "under" and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. The computer nook seemed like a possibility. Not sure if it will be tall enough, but since the computer doesn't connect to the net, I will be using it only for reference. Can't tell you how many times I got out there with something cool from the Board and found I didn't "exactly" remember the instructions. So, those things I put on a thumb drive and transfer out there. Also it is my old computer out there and it had lots of quilty stuff saved already.

Its attributes would be sufficient to be called a studio... But my talent and mastery of the craft may not be. It just feels as if I am granting myself more status than I deserve to say it is "my studio"

Not a basement -- we would probably be swimming here too (south Ga). I don't know what the original intent was for this building. The former owner was a serious NASCAR fan and it was filled with memorabilia and other guy stuff. He had a HUGE BBQ grill just outside. No windows anywhere though. I wish it had natural light, but minor inconvenience all things considered.

You have a great studio and the helpers look happy.

Dotha 03-20-2012 12:19 PM

I have two quilting assistants. One wants to pack every thing off. The other one wants to be curled up in my sewing chair and NOT be disturbed.
