After too many years to count my DH finally agreed to give up some of his shop to a sewing room for me! :D Feeling so loved and lucky!

Trying to upload more photos but they are too big to post. Walls and electrical are in. Next step...sheetrock! Hoping to paint next week and move in the following week? Finally my own cave with all my sewing stuff around me!

KalamaQuilts 07-17-2014 12:07 PM

wow, great space already! Welcome to the board!
I'm going to PM my email address, you can send them to me and make 'em smaller if you like.

cashs_mom 07-17-2014 01:23 PM

Congrats! It's so nice to have your own space for sewing. I love my sewing room

Tartan 07-17-2014 01:27 PM

Congratulations!

quiltstringz 07-17-2014 01:29 PM

Make sure you have lots of outlets!

nwm50 07-18-2014 03:46 AM

So happy for you, that's a huge room!

Cam's gram 07-18-2014 04:06 AM

Bet you can't wait for it to be finished!

Karen G 07-18-2014 05:00 AM

Yuo are going to want more outlets.

kdeems 07-18-2014 05:43 AM

I have lots of outlets. The guy who originally built this shop was a cabinet maker, he put in LOTS of outlets! On the wall with the windows and the back wall there are outlets every 3 feet, the construction wall has 3 outlets for the 12 feet of space.

kdeems 07-18-2014 05:48 AM

The size of the room is 12'X24'. It had to be big enough for my HQ.

tessagin 07-18-2014 05:53 AM

Congrats for your new room with great natural light.

psthreads 07-18-2014 08:27 AM

Nice, great DH. I started that way & then my DH decided I needed my own building.

Krystyna 07-18-2014 08:32 AM

Nice big space! Can't wait to see your progress.

shirleyd 07-18-2014 12:11 PM

Fantastic! It's going to be beautiful and so spacious! Will you only come out to eat and sleep?:)

FurzaFlyin 07-18-2014 03:05 PM

Very nice. What are you putting on the floor? I have carpet and really dont like it. My roller chair tends to get stuck in pile of the carpet. And I tend to lose pins in it too.

squires1042 07-18-2014 11:16 PM

Yea you deserve it. Got the extra space after all.

And not on the floor! Put them up where you don't have to crawl around to find an outlet.

Jingle 07-19-2014 04:28 PM

You will have a wonderful sewing room when it is finished.

sailsablazin 07-19-2014 08:28 PM

Just checked where you live. How are you going to keep warm out there with the concrete floor in the winter? You will need lots of light for those LONG Alaskan dark days.

Pilgrim 07-19-2014 10:09 PM

We are doing some new construction and are putting outlets about every 6 feet. Maybe some overkill but our farm house has one to two per room. Not nearly enough.

mjhaess 07-20-2014 06:52 AM

Looks great..Good luck with your project...

Deanne 07-24-2014 02:39 PM

Same concern with me, I only see two and the way I like to move stuff around, and keep finding a supposed better space for this or that, I must have many outlets!

They are hard to see but on the wall with the windows there are 6 outlets, on the far wall there are two and on the wall without the windows there are three for a total of 10 outlets. Yes, outlets are so important! Not only am I plugging in sewing equipment but speakers, iPods, iPads and computers. :-). In addition the outlets are on two different switches so the switch won't be overloaded with everything plugged in. So, update: The mudding is done, I won't be able to paint until the 23rd, vacation and company during the next couple of weeks. After that the flooring and I can finally move in at the end of August, just in time for winter.

I have three florescent lights down the middle of the room, then I have two 5 lamp spotlights, one on either side of the room over the quilter and one over where I plan to have my sewing table. The shop is heated throughout the winter at about 55 degrees, I will have supplemental heat in my room using a type of efficient electric heater.
