Open Beam Storage

I love this idea of storing fabrics (or quilts in covers?) up in the open beams. In fact, I love the whole look of this tiny office/deign space.

She really has a nice place and yes I’d like to store quilts like that too Could hang chains or something with rods to roll quilts up on with a protective cover

A really pretty house. Storage on the beams would be nice. Most homes don't have open beams like that.

Yeah...I was thinking that too. I wonder if you could find some sort of antiquey thing to hang. I was thinking of those laundry drying racks, or even something completely different that was decorative and could be repurposed.

True, but if you wanted to, you could install false beams and no one would be the wiser. ;)

Looks nice - but it also looks like it would be a bit of a bother to access those items.

I was thinking that too. What if it were on a hanging, pulley system?

Very pretty home. I am not so sure about the storage in the beams only because of sun light. I keep my fabrics in a dark cabinet to avoid sun damage. Looks like a good Idea if you are using fabrics quickly and not storing them for a very long period of time.

I agree...that's why I said, "covered," fabrics. It would be easy to sew a sleeve to cover the rolls and bolts.

I'm also thinking about using a vintage, Pullman train rack/shelf above a window to hold fabrics. Again, I would cover them to prevent fading. An in expensive drop cloth from Harbor Freight would make a suitable fabric for a few covers.

Great storage until you want to access them. Would be a major pain for me. I'm big on one motion storage...
