Because we "THINK" we'll need it and won't be able to get more. However, I'm doing much the same thing. and I'm including the garage too. I have WAY to much stuff for one person.

I really need to do another reorg, but my studio currently is buried in Christmas ornament/tree boxes, waiting for my DH and I to feel better so we can dismantle the tree.
I think it may have been a year or longer since I dusted the high shelves where my collections reside. How is it that these tasks always take a back seat to the rest of the house? |
Gramma Nancy- I hope ya'll feel better soon.
I too am in need of a purge. We've been in this house for nearly 26 years and for 2 people who do not like to shop, we have somehow managed to completely fill it up! I've gotten rid of lots of books over the years, but when I retired I brought my entire professional library home and have found it difficult to give that up-- that whole identity thing is what stops me there. But I'm thinking that it is now time to let most of that go. it would sure free up some shelf space that could be put to more practical use. Rob |
I took a look at all the beautiful yardage I have for quilting. Then I made the decision to pass along ALL my scraps. If I ever want to make a scrap quilt I have a friend with huge amounts of them. My sewing room is 8 x 8 with a good sized closet.
I live in a small space and have to have limits. I have one shelf for quilt books. If I want to buy more and they do not fit---something must go. I just gave away 2 years worth of Block magazines to free up space for 2018. Once I put something in a donation box the hard part is over. We are not our possessions. As soon as it is full out it goes. I like a neat and clutter free house. I also like to bless someone else with things. I have moved alot in my life and I think that really helps. Last time was across the country into a much smaller space. We did not need half the kitchen stuff including 6 frying pans. DH was resistant sometimes as he is a "just in case kind of guy". We do not have have a garage, basement or attic. That really limits what we can own and it is fabulous. We have a small shed for tools. We are renters but tend to stay in a place for a long time. I get all my books through the library mainly E books. I love my Kindle. |
It seems we all have too much stuff. I think that's why the minimalism push is getting so popular.
I've unloaded lots of fabric, books, etc and still don't miss a thing. I love purging! |
