Presenting my re-vamped sewing room

DH made the cutting centre and the ironing centre. Still to do - small shelf by ironing centre, maybe a shelf above the cutting table & making the fabric sling for behind the ironing centre Just a small box of filing to do yet. My bookshelf storage is limited so everything has to earn a place on it. My room is small but it works!
My hubby is the greatest!

A room to call your own- isn't it wonderful. Nice space and what a great hubby for helping you out. Mine is an enabler too.

romanojg 03-11-2014 05:16 AM

Nice room and great hubby. One suggestion though. Since your room is small and your book case is tucked in behind another table and might be hard to get to. Have hubby to take a piece of wood, add casters to it so that it can roll in and out of its little cubby. The bookcase is pressed wood so it probably wouldn't hold up to the wheels on its own which is why I'd put them on a piece of sturdy wood and put the bookcase on it. I have several of these cases, the tall ones are all that have survived the heavy books. That is because after the small ones shelves started sagging in the middle I got smart, I took one of the shelves out and took it to Home Depot and had them to cut me wooden shelves the same size and put them in place of the pressed wood and then for that stationary shelves in the middle I just put the wooden shelve on top of the stationary one for support. Works great and now that I use them for some of my fabric I bought extra pegs and more wood shelves and added more shelves to the case that it came with. When you have small rooms you have to creative and you sure are.

Good use of your space. Enjoy every inch of your new room.

Your own little hide away under the eaves. Great use of space!

Geri B 03-11-2014 06:54 AM

Reminds of my " little attic" in our old house......loved it..I have a bigger straight walled space now roomier, yes, but not cozy...have to work on that!

Country1 03-11-2014 06:58 AM

Congrats on having your own space! Nothing like knowing you can escape into your own space! ENJOY.

Mariposa 03-11-2014 07:06 AM

Congrats on your great sewing space! Many fun times ahead for you!

neece 03-11-2014 07:16 AM

It looks like you all have really done a good job using all the space. :D

Evie 03-11-2014 07:28 AM

Nice room -- but, where is the sewing machine? :)

Jingle 03-11-2014 11:22 AM

Looks like it will work very well. Look up how to fold fabric using a ruler and I think you will be able to get more in the cabinet.

wolph33 03-11-2014 11:32 AM

a nice cozy organized space, enjoy it

My Janome is behind the box of filing, the Singer 99 is under the sewing desk, the 222 is downstairs ready to take to quilting and the Pfaff 122SE is currently at quilting. Grandma's 201 is waiting in the wings for anew position in another room - maybe downstairs?

solstice3 03-11-2014 02:07 PM

Congrats. Lovely room

Sweety it looks like we are both in the same boat as far as how "big" our "little" sewing rooms are. I have started going UP the walls too as there is no more room on the floor but for my walk way to the sewing machines & cutting table. My big ironing board is in DH little Man Cave.

I have the same ceiling and small wall space . Can I use some of your ideas?

Mdaniels 03-12-2014 03:13 AM

Great space, enjoy!

winia 03-12-2014 03:49 AM

Where's your sewing machine? Great storage areas.

Behind the box of filing! And others are under the sewing desk or downstairs ready to go to quilting group. For some reason DH doesn't like carrying the Pfaff 1222SE upstairs and downstairs. Go figure.

It's amazing what you come up with when you live in a space for awhile. And what you come across on Kijiji and friends' castoffs. Requires a very open mind - and determination NOT to add to the fabric stash. But I have to go buy some purples for a baby quilt. Maybe when I get everything on comic boards it will free up some space.

tessagin 03-12-2014 04:18 AM

Very Goodddd!!!!! Love the vintage carpet too!!

Battle Axe 03-12-2014 05:42 AM

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm working on one too and I need to know how much padding he put under the ironing board cover. Any help would be appreciated. I have the baby changing table...garage sale $30.00, repair of door--$20.00. So I could put more into it. Will retire in 3 years and get to my quilting, I'm collecting everything I'll need.

Great room ,we quilters do enjoy our own space. storage is always needed.

Passionate Quilter 03-12-2014 08:31 AM

Those of us with small rooms have to work extra hard to get it all in there and organized. You did a great job and kudos to your hubby for a good job on his innovations. Never thought of putting a light on the cutting table, I need that as my corner is dark so I might copy the idea. Nice looking room, thanks for sharing.

I used one layer of heavy duty aluminum foil (just 'cause) and a layer of the batt used for oven mitts (can't remember what it's called) with the foil side out, then one layer light muslin (because I had some) and then made cotton cover. Cover is removable for washing. I actually have a sleeve board, small side (TV) table for ironing and also the regular ironing board both covered in the same material. Just stapled every layer with heavy duty 3/8" staples. Easy & fast. Base is 1/2" plywood ON 1/2" plywood so total is 1" thick,

This looks so organized so far. Hope you enjoy your special room.

What a cozy space! You have used your space so well.

And I LOVE your cat ruler holder! Where did you get it?

I got the cat shelf at a yard sale for $1 then DH cut slots into the shelf. I'd seen the holders they sell for $$$ an thought he could do that. Have something similar for scrapbooking too.

Great use of space...Great job...

Thanks for the information = I will have to watch for something like that, maybe combining a cat silhouette with a board that has the slots cut into it.

Looks great - now all you need is boards to wrap all that fabric on. You have the perfect shelves for Easy Cores. They are for sale on the QB. There are lots of ways people wrap their fabric - but that's all this room really needs in my opinion! Lookin Good!

nlpakk 04-04-2014 06:08 PM

I just noticed your Readers Digest Sewing Book on your shelf. I have that one too and love it, great pictures and a lot of help. I don't use it often but when you need to know how to do something, it is in there! You have a nice sewing area!
