Quilting Room(s) Reorganization
1 Attachment(s)
I posted a few days ago that I want to move all my quilting machines and supplies into two small bedrooms. Well, yesterday my son came over, measured everything and listened to me tell him what I wanted and what I needed. It seems that for the grand sum of $125 he can build me a whole wall of shelves for fabric that will total about 30 linear ft more than what I have right now. On one of the short walls, he is going to hang my roll of batting so that I can pull it down and cut it without crawling on the floor. There will be one more shelf above the batting, and one below the batting, then a cabinet top that will hold my serger, embellisher and light box. The third wall will have the design board, and on the fourth wall between the closet and door will be the table with my ironer and above that a peg board.
This photo shows this small room which is about 9 1/2' x 9 1/2'. A grandson painted the room a dark brown. I am going to paint it a very light blue or eggshell (haven't decided for sure) and my son is going to paint the shelves white. This room doesn't usually look this bad, but, oh well. |
Sounds like a great project - have fun and please show us the during and/or after pictures!
|
sounds great. would love to see pic of finished rooms
|
What a great son! Can I adopt him?
|
You have thought this over very well. Would really love to see when all is done, before you start messing it up haha
A true quilter is a messy one. If the room is all neat than someone is not working. |
Make sure you post pictures when it's done. What a super son to listen to his mother!
|
I will post as I go. The second room which will not be started for a few months, will be for my quilting table which holds the Juki and a large sewing cabinet which originally held my mom's Bernina but holds my embroidery/sewing machine now. I will also have an 8' folding table, an armoire, a cabinet with all my threads and an ironing board. I hope I can get everything in, I may have to go to smaller tables.
And Darlene, yes I will definitely take photo's before I start a project because I am extremely messy when I cut. I am having to move my things because my granddaughter is expecting a baby in September and in Jan of 2014 I will be caring for her during the day and also my GGS who will be 5 by then. Right now I have no room for a baby and all the things you need for them. |
Can't wait to see the results!
|
Lucky lady.

What a lucky lady to have a son who listens to your needs and wants. My son would say something like "Now Mom, let me tell you what you really want!"
Can't wait to see the pictures of your new room. |
I agree! What a wonderful son to listen to your wishes! Looking forward to your progress.

You are gonna love two rooms, I know I do. My main sewing room is 10x 15, my cutting table, 2 sewing machines and an embroidery machine and the bulk of my fabric is. My other sewing room we call the annex is 10 x 12. In there I have my books batting, fleece and other non essentials I need right away are kept. As well as my Bailey long arm machine. My husband made a custom table for it to sit in.

Post pics when done.....

It sounds wonderful!!!

Lucky you and lucky being able to look after your grandbabies. My one is 1200 miles away. And growing up so fast it is scary.

|
Sounds like you have a son like mine - he can build anything! What a wonderful gift from him. Enjoy your new room.
|
what a wonderful plan - remember to post before and after pics. Good luck.

Pictures when completed will be appreciated. I love the idea of horizontal roll storage for your batting. I'd love that too. Won't ever happen at this point for me as my sewing studio is in full view of the kitchen, family room and front entrance of our home. Not aesthetically pleasing enough. Maybe with some artwork covering it... who knows. Pics though...

what a lucky Gal! whatever it may look, enjoy everything, to have a studio or room for what you enjoy. To have a son, so wonderful to help with this endeavor.
|
What a wonderful son to do this for his mother!!! How awesome is that. Will be looking forward to your pics of your new room!

Update: almost finished, but not quite. Shelves are up, batting is hung, but the work top to hold the serger and embellisher has to be done...then I can start moving stuff in!
|
Look in' good! I'm a little jealous.
|
Just found out the shelves under the batting is exactly the height I need for a table top to put my serger and embellisher on. Yea!
Next photos will be of finished room, so I won't be posting for a week or so. |
Cant wait to see how it all comes together!
|
So happy for you! You are on your way to a beautiful place to quilt! All of your hard work is paying off.
|
Any updates? Can't wait to see what you come up with.
|
yes show us after pics please

I have roll of batting on long wooden pole. Had issues with cutting till I figured out putting a yard stick on top of the roll, mark with pen and then cut it with scissors. It is so much easier to measure and only cut what I need this way
