Re-organizing and fixing up my sewing room

I actually took Friday off from work (we have been doing tons of OT) and had a relaxing day working in my sewing room...in anticipation of starting Christmas gifts (yep, just now getting started on that)...and added some wall art, hung curtains.... one part of the room has yet to be textured and painted, my DBF enclosed the loft upstairs...but I still work in there...hopefully this spring we can get it painted and the french doors put up....this is way bigger than the sewing room that I used to have...but don't we always wish for more? I asked him what the possibility of knocking down the wall between the sewing room and a guest room and you should have seen the look on his face! lol.....Any tips you can give me will be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you asking for tips to get him to take the wall down or on your sewing studio??? Lol. You space looks really good. I have mine in the basement. I started in a fairly large bedroom in the basement. But found my quilting frame was taking up to much space. so I moved into the rumpus room in a corner and now have moved into the one end of the rumpus room.

I like it. I can see spending a lot of time in there.

Love it! What brand of quilting frame do you have? I've been looking at them, but now, have seen so many, I'm so confused.

I have a grace pinnacle with a juki2010, love it, bought it from Kathy Quilts they are so helpful with any question!

Haha... Would love to figure out how he would let me knock down a wall but don't think it's gonna happen! We've been together almost 2 years and plan to marry this next year, but being in our mid 50's we are looking to the future of a one story house, these stairs are getting to us, I'm up and down them what feels like 50 times a day, my knees are getting tired! Lol... My next house is gonna be chosen by the sewing studio space! But I do love that sweet man of mine, I have a space and he's given up his man cave garage space for my stuff still in boxes!

Tips for taking down the wall without authorization (from hubby)? Or.... LOL!! This board will give lots of tips, but think we need more direction! Love what's going on with that room.

Tips on organization with the room please...he won't let me take down the wall to the guest room!

Wow!! That is a great space!

If you are planning to sale the house, I don't think it would be a good idea to remove walls. Your space is great. Stairs are for the young.

if taking down a wall does not infringe on anyone else's private space, then, by all means, DO IT!!! Make your quilt studio as big as you can and fill it with shelving, storage, all things quilty and brightness. Surround yourself there with all things you love and that make you happy. Paint it your favorite color. Be happy and you will be creative!!

I think your room looks great my only question is why do people always put their sewing machine against a wall I have mine away from the wall the fabric glides much nice. Just Askin!!

The reason mine is against the wall is that I ran out of space...the quilting frame and Juki take up most of the room and is away from the walls so I can get around both sides.... I would love to have it away from the wall...if we ever move to a one story home (cause I'm getting too old to go up and down those stairs) I would love to have a big old enclosed sun room to put my sewing/quilting room into! In my perfect world! :)

Thanks everyone...it's getting there...still have more to do...just have a bunch of projects that I have to knock out right now...we are expecting rain here in Central Texas off and on all weekend, figure that's a good reason to stay in the sewing room and work! Happy Weekend!

We do love our Aggie's here in our house! Die hard Aggie Fans!

maybe one room for sewing and active fabric and the other room with shelves for fabric. give you the space to create without being crowded.

lots2do 11-26-2013 05:14 PM

I like that term...active fabric. I also own dormant fabric and even hibernating fabric!

nannyrick 11-26-2013 06:14 PM

Beautiful room. Thanks for showing it.

I do have a suggestion. The shelves that you have the... or what looks like a TV and DVD player on, well, put a shelf up and hang them on the wall, take the ironing board top off it's legs and mount it on top of the shelves. That will free up about 5 foot of floor space for ya. You also have lots of storage space under your tables, don't forget about that!! I love the way you have the sewing machines set up and it's a real good space, I only have room for my Juki and Grace frame in my sewing room so I took over the dinning room for piecing!!! We don't use it anyway!!! Hahahha

DebbE 11-28-2013 07:38 PM

As a concession to the possibility of a future sale AND in the spirit of more room (we ALL need more room!), why not put either a single door or double doors leading into the room next door? That way you still have two rooms. Most folks would like that because it's good if you have a single child (room next door is the play room), or 2 children, or someone who is like us and has a hobby they have a passion for. You could put your long arm into the next room, and put bookshelves wall to wall on one wall for tons of storage in the other room. Keep the closets though, or the room won't count as a bedroom when selling.

Rose L 12-30-2013 12:01 PM

I have to agree with the idea of a door between the two rooms. I have always had my sewing room in a bedroom that was converted from a porch. There is a door between it and the master bedroom and a second door that leads to the dinning room. We just finished remodeling the sewing room and had trouble fitting the long arm in the same space as everything else until my DH mentioned placing it in front of the doorway to the dinning room. Now I don't need as much space behind the frame because I can just open the door from the dinning room and walk behind the frame. I use the door from the master bedroom to access the sewing room. I now have my dinning room back to use for eating rather than for quilting and I am LOVING it! There is always more than one way to skin a rabbit !!!
