Repurposed cabinet
1 Attachment(s)
I took an old cabinet and redid it with a pressing board It works well!!!
I also hope this attachment worked - new at this on my iPad Jana |
Looks great? I have an ironing board I made sitting on top of a folding table with some shelving underneath. Wish I had a cabinet with doors or drawers. Much neater.
Sorry. Meant to say looks great!
Sorry, can't get the attachment to open. Would love to see it.
It looks super and congratulations on a successful picture post!

Looks great and my kind of project.
very nice, and extra space is always good !!
I'm stuck in the middle of the same project. I have the cabinet, the padding and cover, but am having a senior moment on how to get the cover attached to the top and the top back on the cabinet. Did you use a tutorial?

Job well done.
That is awesome!
Great repurposing. Love all the storage underneath.
Great job !!! looks great !!
Excellent! Pat yourself on the back.:wave:

I decided not to attach the top. It is 3/4 plywood with holes drilled randomly in the top to let the moisture out. Then I covered the board with some foam I had ( about 1/2" thick) and 2 layers of mattress pad. I decided the weight held it down and this way if an area was stained I could rotate the board. Also thought it would be easier to replace the two layers of old sheet I stretched and stapled over the top
When I thought I was going to attach it I was going to get the small L bars from Home Depot and attach them on each side. Good luck, let me know what you end up doing. |
looks great!

I used an electric stapler to do the batting and ironing surface and gorilla glue to set my top (a piece of plywood) to the top of my cabinet! Super easy!! BTW, nice job, BB!!

Looks great...

Looks great and has more storage. I made an ironing pad for small pressing jobs. I use a tabletop ironing board for larger pressing. I put it on my countertop in my sewing room and the overflow lays on the countertop. I fold my fabric and a ruler and only parts require pressing.
Very, very nice! Enjoy using it.
Isn't it wonderful repurposing things? A little paint and creativity and that cabinet has a new life now. Love it!
Great job! I would LOVE to do that.
I like repurposing items. We do this with fabric, trying to figure out what to recycle it into, a dress, a quilt etc.
Looks great. I have a similar set-up, only with open shelves below. It sits against the wall, but on carpet sliders so I can pull it away from the wall for pressing larger pieces of fabric.. I love having all that extra storage beneath the ironing board, plus it's so much more stable than a traditional folding board.

Instead of stapling the outer fabric to the board, just staple the padding but make a "pillowcase" for it and when it gets dirty either easily wash or replace.
Thanks for sharing your great idea. |
[QUOTE=oksewglad;6447819]Instead of stapling the outer fabric to the board, just staple the padding but make a "pillowcase" for it and when it gets dirty either easily wash or replace.
This is what I did. It makes it so much easier to be able to slide off the dirty, starchy "pillowcase" and throw it in the washer. I can't imagine how to clean it otherwise, except to have to unstaple it so often. |
looks great-someday I need to make a bigger top for my ironing board.
Ah, what a cool looking cabinet! I really like that.
I love it. do you still, by chance have the cutting board that goes into that slot? If so, it would be a great thing to have when you need extra table space.
It looks great! Will be very useful and pretty at the same time.
how do i make a cabinet top a pressing board? what things do i need to know? is there any particular material that works better than another? what do i pad it with? how much? what do i cover it with? that's a great idea! and looks very nice!
