Sewing Room and Sewing Room Organization

I just completed painting my sewing room and sewing room closet. When we purchased our home in 2009, the room I converted into my sewing room had one wall painted purple and the other three walls were lavender, and the closet was painted white. I painted it all a very light cream color. I talked about repainting for five years to lighten it up, so finally got around to it. In addition, I decided to re-arrange my 8'x14' sewing room closet, so I removed everything from my five 72"x48"x18" chrome shelving units so that I could install 4" casters on them. What a job! I had "stuff" piled everywhere! I wanted ease of access to both sides of shelves. I placed the units in a line (grocery store style) rather than having them against the wall. In doing so, I had room for two more shelving units 72"x36"x12", so I purchased them and installed casters. I also folded my fabric onto comic boards, (all but the backing yardage). I have one LED 4' light fixture in the closet. By rearranging the shelving, I discovered that I need to add another 4' LED light fixture so that I have plenty of light in the closet. My husband suggested that I remove the carpet in the closet and install tile. I responded with, "when I remove carpet, it will be from the sewing room AND the closet carpet. That will be Phase 3. Thanks to Misty's Mom for the porcelain plank tile suggestion! I really like it. Looks like these pics are sideways - I don't know how to rotate them on the QB.

Grab your purse, Tartan, I'll swing by and pick you up..... yaaaay a road trip! What an awesome big room, color me green with envy, tho. Congrats to you.

Wow, I really like your space. You do know that when you move to Texas, you'll have to have a separate moving van just for your sewing, quilting and stash!:p

Great support for you quilts when you quilt them. I had the same step up with my cutting table facing the back of my Bernina. Enjoy.

I love your sewing room. Wow, I could shop in your stash for days. Enjoy.

One of my GF has (almost) as much fabric as I do, so we occasionally 'shop' each others stash. You can never have too much fabric! It's like a guy and 'his' toys!

ANY idea how to turn my pics so they aren't sideways? When I loaded them from my computer, they were not sideways.

Too funny! In the first picture - I thought your chair was you, bending over!!!!

Great set up with the rolling shelves and separate room for stash.

I love the racks. I need to get cabinets for my room and take my stash out of the tubs. I love your Singer clock; where did you get it?

Wow love your space. You sure have a big beautiful stash! Lucky you!

sewbeadit 07-12-2015 10:56 PM

It looks great and very inviting. I bet you will love the castors a lot. Just think if you had tile on the floor instead of the carpet you could easily roll those together out of the way if you needed some more room for something on short term, would be neat.

Wow what a great set up for your fabric. The things you see on the Board are wonderful.

janiesews 07-13-2015 05:59 AM

You did a great job of organizing. Looks so nice and you can see and find things! Your setup with tables around machine is awesome. Enjoy!!

Lindybug 07-13-2015 06:55 AM

I am so impressed! you have inspired me to finish my own sewing room.

ladydukes 07-13-2015 07:16 AM

My son built the Singer clock for me as a surprise. If you are interested, PM me. He does beautiful, intricate work!!

ladydukes 07-13-2015 07:19 AM

The big "table" is a piece of plywood laid on top of my Koala sewing cabinet extension, but it extends further so my husband added "legs" and one end has a 2-drawer file cabinet full of patterns.

I forgot to include this picture. This is the view from one of my sewing room windows. Our property overlooks the Yakima River and the mountains.

Beautiful room -- you are a great organizer! It's a lot of work to get a room that organized but well worth it.

butterflies5518 07-13-2015 03:40 PM

How inviting, I would never leave.

Onetomatoplant 07-14-2015 03:00 PM
