Sewing room
 

An 8 x 10 room. Not big, but it works. Has room for my modified ironing board, a wall of shelving and a 4 ft table for a work area. I'm thinking about a 6' table, so I can have both machines out at the same time. Fabric is stored in bins on the shelves. Not to shabby for a $0 budget. Since this pic, I have removed the computer, so there's room for the bigger table. (Apologies for the messy room.)

Cozy is nice! Less room to mess up. I have trouble keeping flat surfaces clear!

Try as I might, my spaces are a mess but it is an organized one. lol I have a room in my basement where my fabric collection is stored. This is where I cut out and do prep work. I have an ironing board and iron here as well. I didn't like sewing in that room and while I live alone, I still felt isolated. There is good light there but I couldn't hear the doorbell so I sew on my first floor. It actually keeps the lint and string mess down and it is forced exercise because I have to go downstairs when I need to cut anything. I do have an iron and ironing board in both rooms and could cut small things on my kitchen island if I decide not to run downstairs. Living alone I can sew all over the house if I decide to do that. So, instead of a sewing room I have a sewing house...works for me.

A small space forces me to be neater and organized. At least that’s how my mind works !

Nothing wrong with small and compact rooms. Great that you made a zero budget work for you. I love the L shape work space and use one too. Small rooms can make storage a challenge so it really helps to be organized. One option is to think "up". I love the sewing rooms with the cabinets on the wall for storage.

My room is 10x12 so rather small too. I installed 3 rows of shelves over the work table. There are 3 different work tables, a 72x24 cutting table and a lateral file cabinet for home office files.

There are also behind the door organizers that hang on the door. These take little space but with added hooks can store rulers and other flat items.

I have had my 2 main machines on a big corner computer desk for years. I love rolling my chair to the other machine when I am working. I used to keep a serger and embroidery machine on the corner desk. Now it is my Juki and my embroidery machine.

Thank you for sharing your sewing room with us. I will be moving this summer and my current room is14' x 20'. My new one will be about the same size as yours so I am especially interested in seeing how you placed things and reading the comments from others about theirs and how fabric, etc., is being stored. I am definitely going to have to downsize and do some stash busting!

Not bad. Replacing the computer and it’s chair frees up some great space. You have a nice amount of work space. Enjoy. I have cheap plastic drawers from target under my tables and pegboards on my wall to hang up my rulers, scissors, rotary cutters, etc.

Mine is in a small room too (8 X 10) I usually cute on the dining room table, which is right outside the sewing room door. Cozy is great for me!

I've been in a cozy place since I Started quilting and I've made it work just fine. Your sewing nook looks great.

It isn't the size of the room that counts. It is how well you set it up that counts.

If I had a basement n lived alone all my fabrics would be upstairs in the bedrooms n have beds in the basement. Haha I am alone n do not go to basement. Converting garage into sewing studio

When my older son moved out, I moved into the upstairs bedroom I'd coveted for a quilt room since we moved into the house. Previously, my quilting stuff had been in the guest room in the basement.

My house is a sewing house also. The entire 2nd floor (2 bedrooms and the loft) are filled with sewing stuff. One bedroom and the loft hold piles of fabric, plastic tubs of fabric, boxes of fabric, shelves of fabric. No separation of size or color. The other bedroom has the sewing machine, ironing board, and cutting table. And, piles of batting, shelves of fabric and cut squares, boxes of misc. notions and rulers, quilting books, a closet full of UFOs. ... Yikes! I think I better
get busy!!! Oh, and two big boxes of Pack-n-Play sheets cut out and ready to sew!

I do, too! I constantly work on that. Clearing, piling up, clearing, piling up. It never ends.

Love your L-shape work arrangement, very convenient for pressing seams before adding the next piece without having to get up. It seems like that's all I do sometimes is sit down and sew 30 seconds, get up and press for 30 seconds, then repeat. On the bright side it's only 1 step from my sewing table to the pressing board.

I like that phrase. "Sewing nook". That is what I have. :)

Mine is about the same size, maybe 10 x 10, and I share with a queen size bed. Fortunately I only have one machine to set up and use, and I don't have near the size of stash as I'm sure some of you dear ladies have, but I like how you call it a sewing nook. :) Makes me feel like I'm owning my space. :)

For yrs I've been "dreaming" of having a large sewing studio. I've been working in a 12x13 rm for yrs and hate when I needed to lay out pieces on limited flr space, no wall space for design wall. Well, we built a huge hse recently in DE and I have the entire loft and 3 BR's upstairs. My main rm is over the entire 3 car garage and I just can't get motivated when we are down there to use that rm. When I'm back here in NY can't wait to get up to my cozy rm and sew. What's wrong w/me! Sometimes bigger isn't better. I guess it's just a matter of getting it organized, getting up there and getting use to it.
