sewing table

We are moving soon and I will now have a room for quilting. My son-in-law has offered to make a table that I can use for my sewing machine. (I have been using my dining room table.) I am thinking about maybe getting a new sewing machine some time in the future. Should I have him drop the sewing machine I have now down even with the table. If he doesn't cut a hole know would it be something he could do later.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Hopefully this made sense.

I would wait till after you move. Or if you're not going to get rid of the one you've got then have him go ahead and drop thehole then do for a new one later.

Wait! if you decide on a new machine the hole may not be the correct size or the shape that will match thebed of the new machine. Tinker

You could have him cut a rectangle that is removable & cut the correct size & shape in that. You could have one for the machine you have now & then he could cut a new one when you get a new machine. That way you could still use both machines.

The rectangle could set on a ledge much like the Sew EZ tables....

You could have him make the cutout hole a standard rectangle size to fit an acrylic insert. Than you can get acrylic inserts to fit both machines so you can use them both. I got an old sewing cabinet from craigslist that was made in the 80s but I got an insert to fit my machine from dreamworld (they make sew-steady tables) and it works great.

Can anyone share a photo? My DH had a sewing table made for me but we are stuck at the cut out part because I can't decide which machine goes in. If there's a way to have a cut out that can accommodate multiple machines I will share a pic with the carpenter. Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing any pic's of ideas for the finished Table.

If I could afford the time, I would make a quick trip to a sewing machine center with measuring tape and note book in hand.

I would wait.
