Shallow drawers

I need recommendations for a good solid unit with shallow drawers.

Google shallow drawer storage.

I don't know if this is still available but I have the Martha Stewart craft table that has lots of shallow drawers.

Check out the Ikea site - i have a unit for my embroidery thread and three drawers are about 2.5 in. deep and the other ones are about 3.5 inches. The name is Alex. You do have to assemble it but my daughter and I did it within 30 minutes so it's not difficult and seems very sturdy.

Quilting Candy,

Can you please tell us how many spools of EMB thread fit in those drawers? I'm considering those units. Currently using the E*lfa wire basket system. Each drawer holds 81 (Floriani or Brother) spools.

Lisa, Options here.

The inside of the drawers are 23.5 in. wide and 15.5 long/deep (towards the back). When I first saw the example the lady had put glued in dividers so the thread didn't go all over. I hope to do that some day but for now I have been using spice holders (I think they are from Ikea but may be the Container Store - fortunately for me the stores are 2 miles apart) and baskets I found at Walmart. I do like the spice holders because they hold 36 thread spools and I can lift the entire rack out of the drawer when I am looking for a color. The baskets were a temporary fix to see how I would like them. I had the spice holder strips originally and they did not keep the thread in place so I cut up the strips and put them in the bottom of the baskets. So far I am not crazy about them but are doing the job. I like my thread on its side so I can see the color easier.
Another version I saw they had little wooden dowels glued in and they were far enough apart so the thread set in nicely - but the drawer does not pull all the way out so I think that would be a problem.

Thank you for the pics of drawers and threads.

I'm not sure if these drawers are high enough to stand the threads upright. I had dry erase board cut to drawer size. Then hot glued golf-it's spaced accordingly. The T's keep the spools from sliding in the drawers.

Lovesquilting, What size drawers and what do you want to store in them? Here is another option. I use these for small items such as bobbins, sewing thread, etc. There are small organizing trays available that fit right in.

Check the co*ntainer store for the B*isley file drawers.

Check the rolling tool cabinets at Harbor Freight. Some are mostly shallow drawers. You could have extra table space on the top.

I have been eyeing these for some time. I don't know how sturdy they are or if they might fit your threads but it is something to check out.
