Storage around window

:wave:We retired a few years ago, and I asked DH to wait before fixing up my sewing area, (dining room:o)until I have sewn a few projects, so that I can determine what I need, and where I need it.
The area is open-plan and both DH and I share this space, so I wanted it to be easy to organize and clean up when needed.

At first I thought cubbyholes along the entire white wall on the right, but using some bookcases to get the feeling of how it will work, I eventually discarded that idea. :(
The room is long and narrow, so the cubbies would make it even narrower.

Then I remembered that I have always loved window-seats......
So, when I measured the window, I realized the walls on either side is just about the size of a quilt block (liitle bigger) but it will make perfect cubbyholes!!
And .....if we put doors in front, it will be easy to clean (read hide clutter:D)!!!

It is finished now, but we are leaving for a visit with the kids, so I am just stuffing everything in:o....when we get back I will sew:sew: a French blind for the window, and organize it so it is "user-friendly".
I love how it looks, and especially the window-seat!! <3

That's a great use of space.

What is the window seat hiding behind the wood siding? If it has no wire/water pipes, open it up and use the empty space for storage.

What a wonderful idea! I love window seats as well.

Using the space above the window is a great idea, too. Thanks for sharing!

Half of the bench is used to store my vintage machines and embroidery machine (when not in use) and the other half is used for bags of scraps a la Bonnie Hunter's system. Great minds....

What a wonderful addition to your dining/sewing room. It looks like it naturally belongs and what a great grab of storage.

Great use of space. I love that you can close the doors on everything.
