Thread storage?

I bought a 10 drawer roller cart for my thread and it is not tall enough for the thread. I am using Floriani thread. There is not enough room between the drawers.
Anyone have some suggestion on what to do?

Thanks,
Kathy from WIsconsin

Maybe you could return the cart? I have mine in stacking drawers that are pretty deep works really well for me. I am sure other will have a lot of neat ideas also!!!

I have a pull out plastic drawer set that I keep my threads in. The regular spools work fine but I have to lay down cones or taller spools.

I have mine laying on their sides - maybe it takes up more room, but I can see the colors more easily.

I lay all my thread on its side, I can readily see the colors then. Also, when I remove a spool, and close the drawer, there isn't the domino thread effect, with the threads all katawampus.

I use an old "sewing chair" with a removable cushion seat & lay all my smaller spools down to see what color they are.

My thread is not the cone thread. I use Connecting Threads thread (love it) I purchased their thread cases, see through and holds 48 spools, opens from either side, and has a handle for carrying. I think they were around $10.00 I bought 3 and really need another. These are very nice, don't take up much room, (stack them) and keep my thread nice and clean. Catch them on sale and you can get them even cheaper.

Jackie - Check the toy department of your local Wal-Mart or other department store for the plastic cases that hold Matchbox cars. They are the same as the thread cases and generally a little bit less expensive! I have my Connecting Threads collection in two of the Matchbox cases.

I have the multi colored drawer from JoAnns. Some of the drawers are kind of warped from being in box before purchase. I have all of my embroidery thread in them and even though a few of them have a hard time closing I've found that by going ahead and closing them with the thread standing up the plastic is straightening itself out. I guess I could set them out and put something heavy on them to make them flat again but they are slowly getting there I have several brands of thread, including Floriani. Right now for my cotton thread I have two of the thread racks from Joann's that you can sit on a table but I mounted them on the wall; works great. For my large cones of thread I got containers that sit on top of the drawers with lids so it keeps the dust out and they are see thru.

I use those fishing boxes that are clear and see through and you can resize the compartments.

I also use Floriani thread and I used some drawers that I purchased
last year from Ikea. I have three (3) of the cabinets 2 silver & 1 red.

You have to assemble them yourself (or have someone do it for you)
but they are the PERFECT storage cabinet for thread and they are METAL.

I have pegboard on the wall and use hooks to sort my thread by color

I buy plastic school container with handle. I use pegboard and small wooden dowel that fit into the pb. hole. It is single layer and you can see all the thread in it. They come colors of the color wheel. If I use a color twice, I just label with color maker that I am storing in it. Dollar store,Walmart, K-Mart or Office supplies carry them. I bought them when school supplies were on sale. Tinker
