This Rolltop isn't even all made of wood. He bought it at a yard sale for like $30. We figured out it just isn't big enough. I am pulling out my old table and having him cut a hole in it for me. Its big enough and I can always add pieces on to it if need be. I love my Brother machine but the darn thing is so big its hard to find a table for it. I noticed they are not making mine anymore maybe that's why.

"If you need a bigger space(the sides of the rolltop and back will prohibit fabric moving around) either use a cheap flattop desk or table from a flea market or have him make a top from laminate and edge trim and four legs. :) "


Do you mean that you can cut a hole into a table that isn't real wood? I have 3 tables I purchased from Staples several years ago that I use in my sewing room. If I could get a hole cut into one of them that would be great, however, I thought since it isn't wood that wouldn't work.

Well Suzanne I will let you know . My brother is doing it this evening for me. I have a table from staples that has adjustable legs on it. Heavy thing. He is moving the metal center support back and cutting a hole where I draw it. If the hole needs support we will figure that out too. We are winging it. Intead of making a box we are putting a shelf underneath to hold up the machine and it will give me extra storage , always nice. We just haven't figured out how to attach it to the top (secure enough for me) without having anything that sticks out .

Great Table space. Can't wait until DH is finished renovating basement so that I can buy a table and just to put a hole in it. LOL

Turns out that putting a cutting mat on top of the ironing table - even though the ironing surface is just two layers of Warm and Natural plus a layer of muslin - makes it soft. I can do little stuff on it but when I need to cut a new project I undo the binder clips (!!! love office supplies!) holding the ironing pad to the table, and fold it to the left so I have a 36" x 24" hard surface for my mat.

I also worry that the soft surface for cutting will result in poor cuts or wearing out either the cutter or the mat.

That's why my son and my DH call it the 'quilting lab'!

Nice gifts from dh! I wonder if a taller table would help me. I don't currently have issues with my cutting table at it's current height. It's an old kitchen table I picked up at a garage sale for ~$20! Even came with 4 chairs!

Nice upgrades! I need an elevated cutting space...ouch! my back!
