Ultimate Sewing Box
 

I’m thinking of purchasing and Ultimate SewingBox from the Original ScrapBox. It’s a major purchase, but I can’t find many reviews that aren’t part of the company’s advertising. Does anyone have one? If so, what are the pros and cons? Any information is greatly appreciated!

OMGosh....I have never seen this before. So cool! I'll be lurking since I am building a new home with my own sewing studio and I'm still deciding on workspace furniture. I drive by their shop in a couple of weeks and I'm going to try and stop by.

I've seen it before and think it's awesome, but also a lot of money and I have to redo my sewing room including taking down a bunch of shelves and redoing things so I don't think one of these is in my future.

That is quite impressive. Many years ago I something similar on "Simply Quilts". The person was showing how quickly she could make her sewing room into the guest room, and everything folded into the closet with doors hiding everything. Let us know what you decide. And if you buy it, please post pictures.

That looks very nice but not nearly enough room for all the machines, thread and fabric I have.

Are you a minimalist? Otherwise, like a working wall or cutting table, it will never be big enough. Maybe a diamond painter, but not a quilter :)

It is nice, but I agree with rjwilder and KalamaQuilts, not Nearly enough space. Singer had a cabinet that had machine storage, thread, etc., back in the 70's I think, probably not as nice though. I've seen them at yard sales or the like for about $50.

Would love to have one, but unfortunately it's way out of my price range. You are correct though, I've tried to find reviews of it and have seen very few. There was a discussion on Pattern Review but it never seemed to go anywhere (the person who was getting the box never responded as to how she liked it). Wonder how many they have sold! :)

Consider the type of projects that you make. Do you need space for large quilts? The sewing space looks small. It looks nice overall but not functional for the way I sew, quilt, or use the embroidery machine.

I really don't know a lot about them. But my first thought is if you have a sewing room that is good size and its only your sewing room and used for nothing else I would probably use my money on something else. I am one of these people that like to leave there project out so I can keep working on it threw out the day. And at the end of the day I just close the door to it. But I do like a organized and clean room. So if you have your heart set on getting it then buy it and lets us all know how you like it. Its always nice to add something to your sewing room!

I had to search the www to see what this was. I do not see a good thing about it. Unless maybe someone lives in a “Tiny House”. :-) This takes up a lot of wall space but has no room for fabrics. How much fabric do you have? A little bit or a lot? What happens when you fill the space around the cupboard? Then you can’t open the doors fully?? Will you like your face “inside the cupboard” all day while sewing?? Hope to hear what you decide to do.

Thank you for all the replies! I am Not a minimalist and I have a pretty decent sized stash. However, I have another cabinet that is dedicated to my fabric. I also have a cutting table with storage under it too. This would replace a farmhouse table I have that my hubby cut a whole in to accommodate my sewing machine. I love the table but I prefer to piece rather than quilt, and have been sending my quilts to a longarmer. So, I don’t need as much surface space. The SewingBox would hold other misc stuff, notions, etc. Hmmmm.... maybe there’s a better (and cheaper) solution?

It wouldn't work for me - no place for the longarm, or the fabric. It might be nice if you are very limited on space and don't have a big stash. Here's a much smaller version for sale near me (craigslist) for a lot less money. Admittedly not the same thing though. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/...828557923.html

Just from looking at it, I don't own one. I wouldn't like having to reach over my machine to get to stuff.

I like a lot of room behind my machine for the bulk of a large quilt. If you only work on small quilts and only a few supplies it might work.

The single leg supports don't look very sturdy. The surface won't hold many tools as you are working and have a lot of fabric on it too. I keep stuff like thread clippers, small cutter and mat, pencil, glue bottle and small iron with pad close to my machine. My foot or chair would bump those tables once and it would be all over.

Not practical for storing fabric.

IMHO, I would only invest in this cabinet if I were a very casual quilter and didn't use it much. The price would keep me away from it.

This is my observation from just looking at it. Might be great for scrapbooking or jewelry.

This is very nice, but not for me. I have shelves 12 inches from the ceiling all around the room, plus a walk-in closet with 12-inch shelves for my fabric wrapped around comic book boards. I also have 2 bookshelves with wrapped fabric, plus an armoire. There is a long section of IKEA tables with a corner unit. This about holds my stuff. I'm a fabric packrat.

dunster-that's exactly the cabinet I was mentioning that Singer had in the 70's(I think).

If you have to keep the room tidy for other purposes, that looks useful, but for my sewing room, which is in a remote part of our upstairs, I'm much happier with garage shelving and spending the money I saved on more fabric and equipment. Also, I think having the L-shaped table space to your left is very useful for quilting, but having it on both sides might bug me unless I could somehow turn the right hand one into an ironing surface. Normally, I'm in and out of my seat to iron, and the right side of my sewing table is constantly available for frequently used supplies in various bins and plastic sorting boxes.

I have a beef with the "Murphy bed" concept, and that is that you have to leave the floor space available in front and to the sides. It looks neat when it's all closed up, but it doesn't really free up space for other purposes, and the process of having to open and close it would be enough of a deterrent that I might put off sewing. In our previous house I was able to set up my sewing machine in a shallow closet with shelving above and pegboards in the back and to the sides. I liked being able to close the closet doors to hide my mess, and in that case, it's not as if you'd be placing furniture in front of closet doors in any case.

I’d stick with my husband’s sewing machine table he made for you and forget this cabinet. :-) I think you will be happier without it. Also if you need more storage for items, get a cabinet that will fit in your space. It will be a better use of $$$.

I also think you will not be happy if you cut down on your available flat spaces...just saying....I have a 5’ ironing table and a 6’ cutting table, an “in the cabinet” sewing machine cabinet, plus another table set up with a sewing machine and I still don’t have enough room to lay out my project. :-). :-)

It is a really nice set up for anyone who needs to tuck their sewing stuff away. I am lucky to have a designated sewing room that we added over our two car garage. DH says if I ever outgrow the space, I definitely have a quilting problem. I just added a long arm machine and still have room for 3 sewing stations. : )

I am sure you will find the perfect one for you. After a couple of months of indecision, I just took the room measurements and using graph paper determined what size pieces I could accommodate. I looked at six or so sewing center options and chose those that worked for my space, height and sewing needs.

Wow! I have a "pattern" to build a sewing station similar to the Ultimate. Thinking my hubby could build it for me. Was I ever mistaken. Ha Ha

Their website says it is $3000. If it were me I could redo my whole sewing room and it would be really nice for $3000. Or maybe you can look around your hood and find a "neighbor" would would build you something similar for $3000 and you would know who built it and that it's a real nice, quality piece.

I have one of the original ScrapBox. I have a 17 x 21 ft garage I remodeled into my sewing studio. I have my thread & notions scissors etc in it. I have a lot of fat qtrs in the acrylic boxes thread in some plus on the door. Big trays I have jelly rolls & layer cakes in. I took the table off as I can’t get down under it to get stuff. When I get better pics I will put some on here but I have posted b4 my room with pics of my box wide open. Be very careful when you buy because there is a fake website out there that will take your money & you get no box & lost your money

I didn’t pay $3000 for mine plus I got free shipping and a free crown when I bought mine. I took my sew table off bc I couldn’t get down under it to get anything. I guarantee you would be very organized if you had one of these cabinets as everything is put away and you can label everything so you don’t have to dig thru every drawer to find something. I set mine up bc I’m not going to close it every night. It all depends on what you are doing as a hobby or doing a business. Ice seen a lot of ladies that are specializing in certain things and find the cabinet to be exactly what they want/need and are enjoying it. They have a monthly installment plan now too so anyone can purchase one. I really enjoy having mine. I also found one in a neighboring town that I got for my younger sister. She is planning on coming to get it in a couple of weeks.

I much prefer to work facing my room, or window, not a a square gap in some furniture. This seems to be a hugely expensive item, that is not much bigger than a wardrobe for a single person. Those metal legs do not look very strong either. I like my dining room table and the space I have around it to move, and the view through the window.

I don’t think you need to be a minimalist or casual sewer. But you’re probably a stickler about organization and clutter. I prefer a streamlined look that’s coordinated and a small amount of fabric. I don’t want to see everything I own or have piles of stuff surrounding me. I want a pretty space that’s functional too. I suspect aesthetic appeal is a big factor for its demographic. I think the same holds true for their other products.

That thing doesn't look the least bit interesting to me. I like to see out my windows in my sewing room. The price also seems a bit ridiculous!

I would fill it with tools and only a small fraction of material.
