This weekend's thrifty crafts for the studio
2 Attachment(s)
This weekend I took some Ragu sauce jars and turned them into craft storage for the sewing studio. I simply removed labels, washed the jars, spray painted the lids to match my space, took some key rings I found in my office supplies and tied them onto the jars. Also, last week a neighbor gave me a tv tray. I spray painted the legs white, used leftover batting to cover the top, used a fat quarter (we all have one or two of those lying around ;-) and stapled it all with a gun. This made a fold away ironing center for me to use on the smaller items I have to iron when piecing so that I don't have to get up from my workspace, I can just swivel in my chair from my sewing machine to my ironing station.
I luv making free finds into useful things for my sewing space. I also managed to find the time to quilt and finish a baby quilt. It was a very productive weekend. |
Looking good!

Love your jars, and the table is quite handy too. Good job!
Great ideas!

Wow you really transformed that table! What a difference!
Wow!! You had a really productive weekend. But where's the baby quilt?? LOL!:D
LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE the ideas.. Keep them coming.. !!
Oh - I love the little ironing table! That's very clever.
I save the large peanut butter jars for buttons, safety pins and many of the different straight pins. I'm always knocking little things over. I have a small magnet in a couple jars of the safety pins. If I drop one I just use the jar to pick it up.

Great re-do of the jars, and the tv tray is terrific too!
Great job, thanks for sharing! I have made a small ironing surface and on the other side placed a small cutting mat, that I could take to classes. I often lay it on a TV tray at home for the same reason, love not having to get up and move every whip stitch.
You really did a great job on those items!
Wow... I have a tv tray like that, but simply put a cutting board/ironing board (June Taylor I think) on it... Yours is so cute!!!! I'm feeling inspired! and the jars are great too... Thanks for sharing!!

I have a 90" countertop and try to keep it cleared. I have an ironing pad for the smaller pieces I am working on and a piece of cutting board for small pieces that need to be trimmed. I only use a tabletop ironing board, large ones stored in closets in my room. I like to get up often and not having sit down spaces make me to it.
I am glad things work for you. |
Love it all. The ironing board looks so handy. Great job.
Love the tv tray idea. You did a nice job and so useful.
Your little ironing table is so cute!
Thank you to all. We all have our spaces needs, and I hope more of you share your crafty ways of making your space work better. I will continue to try to share the little crafts I do for my space.

Great job.....

Great ideas, love the jars and neat ironing table.
Love that TV ironing board idea! Great work. Very creative.
love it, love it. love it! Amazing all that and finished a baby quilt too. A very productive weekend for sure.
Looking good. I keep the plastic quart mayo jars to store things in...don't have to be as careful with the plastic ones.
Great ideas---one suggestion. If you are using a wood tv tray, before you put the batting and fabric on top, get some of the silver heat resistant fabric for ironing boards and put it on the tray first---otherwise, the steam and heat from the iron will warp the wood. Learned the hard way.
How cute that must be seeing her at her little sewing table! I hope you have taken a picture of that.

I love those Ragu lids and labels. So your TV is sturdy enough to hold your iron upright? I'm such a klutz, I'm afraid I'd tip mine and burn myself.
Absolutely love your clever ironing table. I will be mimicking the idea. Thanks for sharing.
Love the table--great idea. I will have to watch garage sales for one. I use Skippy peanut butter jars, and Hellmans mayonnaise jars. Both are plastic and have turquoise lids--so I don't have to paint them.
All good ideas! Just looked around and noticed DH is using a table just like that for his laptop, next to his easy chair. Do you think he would notice if it was missing? LOL Maybe I'd better shop around!
Well now that it nifty and do we get to see a pic of your space?
So cute! what kind of paint did you use on the jar lids?
Love the former tv tray now an ironing station.
