I was just wondering if there were any members here from Elk Grove, CA? I've been wanting to join the local area guilds, but I have a medical handicap(I hate the word handicap) so let's just say I'm special:> I've got a rare, voice disorder and It's very hard for me to function in loud environments as I can't speak over the noise. It would be nice to have a quilting buddy local and or someone that could introduce me into the E.G. guild. Or just get together once in a while to work on projects.

Not from Elk Grove, but I enjoy going to Roseville area from San Jose about 3-4 times per year. Was just there a few weeks ago. Would love to meet you next time I'm in the area. Am pretty new to quilting and this site, and would welcome new quilting friends. Love your bird of paradise avatar. Is it your own design?

Thanks, my avatar is an Eileen Sullivan design. She has some great PP flower designs for sale. Would love to hook up some time when you're in the area or carpool to a quilt show!

Hi Candace...I live in Brentwood, just the other side of the Delta from you. I would love to get together with a small group from local cities. It would be fun!

Great, though it would be nice to do it at someone's house who wants to show off their longarm:> I'd love that!

Ohhhh, I wish I were that person...I don't have a long arm, but we could certainly meet here. I would love to have a long arm, but no space (or money) to have one! Do you know of any shops in your area that rent time on a long arm?

Candace,
I'm from Pleasanton, on the other side of Mount Diablo from you. If you do find time to get together with others, I would like to know about it.

In Pleasanton, we have Amador Valley Quilters - a 350 member quilt club that meets at our local middle school (Jr High) in their auditorium once a month - 2nd Sat of the month (normally at 1:30 pm but this month it will be 1:00 PM).

Pleasanton Middle School
5001 Case Ave
Pleasanton

Across street from Alameda Co Fairgrounds

Visitors are always welcome. I visited for the first time in July and have signed up as a member. The group has really good speakers, workshops, a lending library, quilt magazines for 25 cents, a block of the month challenge, and Community Quilts to be donated to local charities. The club is tax exempt (membership is tax deductible) $35 per year. We have folks traveling in from all over the Bay Area to attend the meetings. There will be a show in September at Alden Lane Nursery "Quilting under the Oaks" - the third weekend.

Check your local quilt shop (LQS) and see if any of the staff know of a local club. AVQ may be a distance for you to travel. I know of a club in Sacramento, and I think there is one in Lodi - but I'll have to check around.

Keep us posted on your efforts!

Hi Vicky, I am in Brentwood and know a few women who belong to the Pleasanton Guild, but have never attended myself. I have thought about it a few times, but weekends are hard for me to make. I was hoping to make the quilt show at Alden Lane, but have family commitments. I have gone most years dating back to when Aex Anderson was in charge. It is always a great show and the nursery is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy it!
