Chautauqua

Does anyone here go to Quilting Around Chautauqua in New York in September?

Mdaniels 02-13-2013 05:27 PM

I never have but I will now--what is the venue like?

MaryMo 02-13-2013 05:28 PM

It sounds like an interesting event, wish I could attend.

quiltin-nannie 02-13-2013 05:38 PM

It is wonderful! My friend and I go for the weekend . There is always a quilting " name" there, teaching classes or lecturing. Last year we had Mary Ann and Mary Fons. This year is Eleanor Burns. She was there several years ago and was a hoot. There are also about 60 plus vendors. Ginny Beyer has been there as well as Kay England. It's a wonderful weekend.

I'll have to watch the LQSs here for more information, I'd love to go. Thanks--if you see anything with dates, please do post!

BuzzinBumble 02-14-2013 04:43 AM

It sure sounds fun and that's not a long drive for us....in case you find out more, can you post the info here?

I went last year for the first time. It is sponsored by a shop in PA. www.millcreeksew.com Lots of product to view, sewing machines to try, guild displays and a good shuttle bus. Take your camara. I'll be going again.

I've never been (yet) but a group of ladies from my guild goes every year. They've already made reservations for next year! Here's a link:http://www.millcreeksew.com/quilting...auqua-2011.htm

I've never heard of it. I grew up in WNY and go back for an annual visit, maybe this year my visit will be in Sept.

quiltin-nannie 02-14-2013 01:25 PM

Its held the last weekend in September every year. I see where someone posted the website for Millcreek Sewing. Judy Fenton, the owner, coordinates this every year and does a fantastic job. This is the tenth year it has been held. A ton of work for Judy and her daughter Megan. It seems to get bigger and bigger every year. You can get info from the website. She will be posting Eleanor Burn's schedule in the next couple of weeks. If you need any more info than whats on the website, let me know and I can give Judy a call.

I, too, would like to see some information on it. Let us know. I have never heard of this before.

LadyElisabeth 02-14-2013 05:34 PM

Thanks for the information, I'm going to check it out. This might be a fun trip across the country :)

Mdaniels 02-14-2013 06:07 PM

Great....that IS my local LQS, lol...at least one of them. I will look forward to checking it out, thanks.

http://www.millcreeksew.com/events.htm. It's awesome place to go and so many beautiful quilts. Definitely worth going there if you get a chance. Been for 3 years straight with quilt lovers, I hope to make it there again this fall before we move.

Chautauqua is the best! And the scenery is beautiful!

Hi, I'm new. Yes I'm signed up for ELEANOR BURNS. Any suggestions on lodging? Any one from the Meadville Pa area going?

Hcim55 07-26-2013 03:59 AM

I attend and enjoy a lot! The grounds are beautiful along the lake. There is quite a bit of walking, but...., they have a lot of shuttles...if your feet get tired.

the only comment I would make is food availability could be better. Many people bring their lunch, we eat an early lunch at an area restaurant before we go into the event. I believe there is luncheon....it does fill fast.....check on the details on their website.

You might try the Athenaeum Hotel to see if they have any openings. If you are not staying there, it is hard to get into their dining room for meals, as it is reserved for guests of the hotel. They sometimes have extra seating for meals, check at the front desk. I, too, am taking Eleanor Burns class. I took it when she was there a few years ago. She is so much fun! By the way, I am from the Edinboro area too!

I've got my ticket to go to Eleanor Burns class and lecture. I'll be there 3 days. Going up Wednesday evening. I'm excited 3 days of quilting and not having to feel guilty for not cooking a good dinner!! Poor DH has to do my horse chores! Any suggestions on aplace to stay. Cheap so I can spend more at the show!
