Featured Speaker
Hi all. If you had a choice of a local or nationally known speaker, who would be your favorite to invite to be your quilt show featured speaker/quilter? Thank you for any input, I'm a rookie at this quilt show planning, lot of work but a great committee of ladies to work with. Vicki

So many to choose from! National teachers are generally now booking two years in advance.
|
It also depends on your budget. Some National teachers charge transportation, hotel, and food separate from their fee. Like QuiltnNan said the Nat. teachers are booked yrs. in advance.

I went to a clinic with Patsy Thompson and I think she would make an awesome speaker and I know she travels.

There are so many to choose from, but as QuiltnNan said most book a couple of years in advance, so much may depend on when it is. You don't say where you are located so you might look to see if there is a"locally known speaker. Check with the local quilt guilds they often have good contacts or may have suggestions.
That being said, here's a few suggestions of those I have seen and would recommend: Pat Slone, Doug Leko, Rob Appell, Ricky Timms, Bill Kerr & Weeks Ringle (husband & wife), Sue Nickels....this doesn't even scratch the surface. I did find this link if it helps.: http://www.quilters-calendar.com/teachers/ |
That would be someone that would benefit the club. This weekend, I went to a show and one of the speakers was all about embroidery on quilts, she's an expert in her field. Now it you have people interested in that, she'd be a good person to invite. Hand out a sheet and ask the club members to write down some people that they'd like to see in the future or things they'd like to include into their quilt making, like embroidery, embellishing, etc

Ask other guilds too, if they want to split the cost so to speak. As far as I know teachers/speakers love to hit two or three in one trip, so the speaker travel/lodging etc is shared.
