Going to Houston for International Quilt Fest!!

so excited, a few days ago I asked DH if he would be interested in going to Houston for the International Quilt Fest. He said, "since you made me go to the National Quilt Museum when we visited Padacuh, yeah, I'd go". shocked me but I didn't wait for him to reconsider--got the flight reservations and hotel rooms tonight. We are going to fly down early Thurs and then back late Sat. So it will be a quick visit and I know most people say 3 days are needed at the quilt show. But I'm not taking classes and maybe with less time I won't be spending as much at the vendors!

Congrats on deciding to come to Quilt Fest. I live here so I go every year and it really is phenomenal. You'll have a great time. If you DH doesn't want to got Quilt Fest every day with you, there are lots of other things to do in Houston.

Lots of folks here have been to Festival so if you have any questions, just ask.

So exciting for you!

That's so much fun, I'd love to take DH one day so he could see the quilts. I think 3 days is enough since you are not taking classes. Of course, I would spend 2 in the vendor area. Have an awesome time!

Congrats! I am going, as well. This will be my first time and I am taking a couple of longarm classes and a seminar.

I hope we both have a great time!

I hope you both have fun. Me, no way would I go anywhere there's that many people. I find a group of 10 too many. LOL

It will be great fun! There is so much to see and do there! For many quilters this is a " Bucket List" item.

getting so excited! And wouldn't you know it that KC is expecting freezing temps and rain/snow Wed night and our flight to Houston leaves very early Thurs. morning--and we live about 90min from the airport! So we decided tonight to get a room right near the airport and go up Wed night after work to a motel that will transport us to the airport bright and early!

Good luck to everyone traveling this week to Houston. I leave first thing tomorrow morning and Denver is supposed to have a lot of snow and very cold temperatures. Hopefully I will be able to get to Denver then on to Houston! It's been so cold here it will be quite a shock to go from single digit temperatures to 70's and 80's.

I'm getting really excited! I"m planning to go to Quilt Fest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday providing my ankle doesn't give me problems. I can hardly wait!

Hello all! I arrived Tuesday evening. All I can say is, it’s a must-see, fabulous show!!! So many beautiful quilts! I think every one of them deserves a ribbon. And everyone is so nice. I’m so glad I came! 😁

The Jamie Wallen longarm class was fun but not nearly enough time on the machines. The class size got doubled so that limited the time we each got to spend using the Innovas. I did get to use the M20. It’s awesome! A little smaller than the M24 and not for sale at this time. I’m trying to get them to sell me a class demo. Lol

More classes tomorrow, plus more quilt viewing and of course more shopping. I bought a t-shirt that says Quilting Is My Cardio. Truly appropriate after walking this show for several days. Lol

Hope all of you who attend will have a great time, too!

home again late last night--Wow,what a show! We (DH & I) spent Thurs afternoon seeing about 1/3 of the show quilts--his knee giving his major problems, so he then sat for about 1+hr while I zipped through the vendors. Having spent lots of $$ for stuff and classes at KCRegionalQuiltFest this summer, I was only going to spend on vendors that I Really wanted stuff. Somehow I accomplished that(although I bought a new Tuttoo case for my Elna from a vendor from SF--she's mailing it to me)
Friday we spent the most of the day viewing those amazing quilts. DH's knee acted up again, so he shuttled back to hotel while I actually spent the money I intended at the vendors I'd figured the night before I'd visit. Then yesterday, we spent the day seeing the rest of the show quilts. Wow, Wow, Wow! I can not say enough about all the gorgeous quilts! So many original designs and that is the part that awed me--how do they come up with such designs???
I agree with QuiltingCottage--viewing these quilts certainly did count as my cardio for the 3 days! Despite eating at a couple of great restaurants (The Rig in our hotel, Cambria and twice at Pappadeaux's at the convention center--yum!) I didn't even gain weight!
Another plus--met a couple of nice quilters, Sharon & Joyce from Lubbock, that also stayed at our hotel and rode the shuttle (and also first leg of flight home) with us! Quilters are just the nicest!
My DH kept sending photos to his sis, who is an artist and I've convinced to do a quilting class offered by my guild--she said "next year I'm coming too"--sounds like another trip to Houston for me!
