Hi, I am Fran and I live in Washington State about an hour south of Seattle.
My husband and I will be going to UK for a 3 week vacation and we are looking for places that we should be sure to not miss. Is it easy to find fabric stores? How much can I expect to pay for quilting fabric?
In Northern Ireland, we will be going to Derry, the Causeway and Belfast. Tell me where to go for Fabric and places to see.
I have a friend that will be in Dublin about the 24th. of Sept. and she would like to meet up with a quilter/sewer to show her places. Or, have a cup and coffee and share a list of places she should see. Thanks to all.

When are you going? I have an Irish quilting magazine that you might find interesting, I'm looking at it just now and I can send you some shop info you're interested. I can even send the mag if you are not going for a bit yet.

I didn't find a lot of fabric when I went a few years back. But I did find gorgeous yarn which makes sense when I think about all of the sheep I saw!
Good luck and have a great trip! (I'd love to go back).

We are not leaving for another three weeks. WOW, when I say it like that it makes it very real. I have so much to do before we leave that I don't know where to start. I am in the middle of organizing my sewing room. You would think that if I think I like the idea of giving some of it away best. Names of Fabric stores in Belfast or Derry would be appreciated.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. My DD#1 went to Oxford for a term and DD#2 and I flew out there at the end of her term and traveled around England, Scotland and Wales for about 10 days, right before Christmas. It was a wonderful trip. That was about 9 years ago. My girls are into history and DD#1 ended up getting a Masters in History, focusing on Midevil England. We visited a lot of castles and Museums, the Tower of London, a great Castle in Wales. Off the top of my head I don't remember all the names of the places.

I used to live in England and visited all the wonderful places you are going. Quilt fabric will be higher than US. Great wools over there...prices on wool may be less than US, but heavy to travel with and then you have to ship...

Use the "tube" "underground"..subway for travel when in London. The traditional "black taxiis" are alot more expensive than the others. Ask the locals for fish and chip places..
You will have a blast! We are jealous....have a wonderful, safe time.

I am sooooo jealous. I would love to go. Have a wonderful and safe trip, wish I could help out with the fabric shops, but cannot. I had a lovely friend that travel to New Zealand and brought me a package of fat quarters and a pair of pillowcases.
They were very nice. Have not made anythins yet, bet thought I would applique the fat quarters on the pillow cases. (one day)
