Houston Quilt show?
 

Do we know if the quilt festival in Houston is still going to happen? Was hoping to attend this year.

The Mayor of Houston said that Houston is open for business - that no conventions have been cancelled. And if you go into the website for the Houston Quilt Show they are saying it is going forward.

May want to double and triple check your hotel reservations, though....just a thought!

And rental cars are very hard to get right now.

IQA has been posting on FB that all is going forward as scheduled. The venue was not in an area of flooding and they made sure all the show quilts were safe and on high ground before Harvey hit. But as others have posted, hotels and rentals may be a different story. Hotels, especially smaller ones in low lying regions may not be open for business as usual so quickly after the flooding.

Native Houstonian here. Suggest staying at walkable downtown hotels, lot of construction, er ugh, reconstruction right now.:( Please wear comfy shoes & plan ahead what you must see because it there is so much to view. The last time I went home for the show there was a four seasons silk quilt from Japan that took up four walls, one for each season - it took my breath away! You may want to buy a program in case things get rearranged prior to printing. Book classes early. Bring a sack lunch or check out the nearby restaurants, including the rotating Spindletop for city views. The city library is full of quilting books, one year their book sale coincided with the show & I found several Thimbleberries & Carol Doaks books that I had been wanting for quite sometime. Note that the local quilt shops have fewer customers or are closed because they are at the show. My favorite LQS is off 11th St near Yale in The Heights (a quaint Victorian neighborhood near downtown). Y'all remember to hydrate even in November in Texas! Hope you have a lot of fun! Oh, the things you'll see!!!
I wish I could go this year but our family is planning Thanksgiving/Family Reunion in Dripping Springs so I must save my money for that trip & hopefully some Texas themed fabric.

As far as I know the show is on. I just got an email from Quilts Inc that puts on the show about it. There is a lot of construction downtown. I live here and go every year.

It's probably too late to book a room downtown now, but you could try. Ditto for classes. You usually have to plan ahead for that. You might be able to find a room farther out and drive in. Since you're from SA, I assume you'll be driving here anyway so won't have to worry about rental cars. They're probably scarce with all the cars that were flooded during Harvey.

I second wearing comfortable shoes. I wear a Fitbit and logged over 15,000 steps each day at Quilt Fest last year. Also, rolling carts usually aren't allowed on the floor at the show. Bring a big tote bag and an extra one to check when you have too much. It's only a dollar to check a bag. There's usually a place on the floor to check bags and one upstairs.

Also bring a camera or tablet to take pics. The quilts are really amazing. There are areas where no photography is allowed so you have to watch for that and I ask the vendors if I can take a picture before I do.

There's usually a good selection of food. I have lots of food sensitivities and so my diet is limited. I just bring my own and my something to drink. I also bring a bottle of water to start. It's expensive at the show.

If you can plan to stay at least 2 days. I usually go down 3 days and it's barely enough to see all that I want to see and do a bit of shopping.

The weekend can't come soon enough.

Last night I was watching game 6 of the World Series. It is in Los Angeles now but they showed all the fans at Houston's stadium and it was packed!! Love seeing the excitement.

Quilt Festival is definitely happening! I'm really getting excited to see what wonderful new quilts there are!
