Mayne Island Quilts By the Sea Show

I attended the Mayne Island Quilts by the Sea Show today. It was a delightful show with 300 or so quilts displayed in a Japanese Garden. It was my first time attending. They do their show every four years.

The quilts were beautiful and ranged from Traditional to Modern, plus Art Quilts, Minis and so much more. It was hard to choose a Viewer's Choice. Luckily there was room for three numbers on the ballot, so I did not have to narrow it down to just one.

I do not know why I did not take a photo, but there were 20+ embellished shoes on display in the garden too. Too hard to describe without a photo, but lots of fun went into them.

There also was a display of vintage quilts. One has been covered by a new top once the first top wore out. It was hanging in the sun and you could see the original through it.

One of my grandmothers, Mar-mar was an incredible needle worker. She did everything from embroidery to sewing/quilting, to spinning, knitting weaving, basically everything a woman could do with a needle, thread, fibre and fabric. Today was her birthday. She lived on Galiano Island, just across from Mayne Is. It was a wonderful way to honour her memory on her birthday.

Yes, next time do post some pictures. The local guild here has a show every other year. Just too much for everyone to get it together annually! Glad you had a wonderful time!
