Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival

I will be in the Norfolk area during this quilt festival and wanted to see if anyone else is going.

I go every yr Thur thru Sat. I work on Sunday or I'd go then too. Not taking any classes but will be taking them at the expo in June in Raleigh NC. I wouldn't miss it and I have a 7yr old grandson who gets upset if he finds out I go without him, so I have to take him on Saturdays since he's in school. I get some great deals and I love to see the quilts. Since I'm from Norfolk I know some of the people who have quilts and booths so it's nice to see what they've done.

I am still debating whether to go or not. I am moving on the 8th of March . I know it will be the last big quilt show I will be able to get to but I don't know if I should spend the time and money. And I will want to buy stuff, lol and where I am moving to I won't have a sewing room just my bedroom , although I guess one or two more things in the storage unit won't make a difference.

romanojg, Hello, what is going on in June in Raleigh NC? is it a quilt show?

Cheryl 02-13-2013 12:09 PM

My friend and I are going to a quilt show in Hampton Va. is that the same one that you are talking about.

AUQuilter 02-13-2013 12:41 PM

Yes, it is. I don't know the facility at all but if folks are willing to meet up at a predetermined time, I will be there on Friday.

In Raliegh they have the original Sewing and Quilt Expo. I really like that for a few reasons. First of all; its not just mainly about quilting, it has great classes on quilting, embroidery and sewing clothes. Most if not all of the classes the machines are supplied. Last yr I got to take a class on FMQ and binding using the Viking Ruby which is what I had at that time. It was nice not to have to lug a machine to class plus I got to learn on a new machine. I also took a class on dyeing silk; that was really nice. They have great vendors and drawings every night; you don't have to buy tickets, you enter when you go to the expo. They put the schedule up about 60 days in advance and most of the classes have all supplies included with the cost. There are some in Chantilly which would be closer to you but last yr that was around October and also one if Fredricksburg Va, etc. I'm so lucky that my best friend lives in Raleigh but if she didn't I'd have to find a way to go.

I'll be going on Friday, even got my sister from N.H. to fly down and join me! So how about this - anyone going on friday wear something red, and we will be eating lunch near the lobby stairway at 1:00 (I usually bring a sandwich). I will put a badge with "QB" on my shirt, so be bold and say hi to any short 50-something with a brown ponytail, red shirt and glasses. Either we will get to meet, or get arrested for being suspicious!
