If anyone is in the NYC area there are two quilt shows worth checking out. One is called: Infinite Variety Three Centuries of Red & White Quilts. It's presented by the American Folk Art Museum at the Park Ave Armory. http://www.folkartmuseum.org/
Another one is called: Urban Inspirations Quilt Show. This one is at Reeves Great hall @ the Fashion Institute of Technology. Tomorrow the 27th is the last day for this one. Hope you get to enjoy :) Jean |
I saw both of these yesterday - and I can vouch that they are well worth the time!
The red and white exhibit at the armory was particularly jaw dropping. I took some pictures (at both shows) and will try to post them later tonight on the picture section. |
I was able to take a few pictures at the red & white exhibit before the battery in my camera died :( once I upload those I will post some too.

One fact I learned about the earlier quilts I thought interesting had to do with people's signatures on some quilts. "By the end of the nineteenth century, red & white became the preferred color combination for quilts made for fundraising. Donors would contribute money (often ten cents) to have their names included on a quilt that might then be sold or raffled in order to raise more funds." |
