Took a non quilting friend to a quilt show
I took a nonquilting friend to a quilt show yesterday. It was interesting to see the show through her eyes.
She was drawn to soft colours/low volume quilts, whereas I love bright, bold saturated colours. Interestingly it sort of matches our personalities, she prefers not to be noticed and I tend to be bold. She wears soft colours and I wear bright ones. The quilts varied from beginners (many were marked first time showing) to very advanced. As a beginner I love to see beginners displaying their quilts. It helps me to feel that my efforts are ok. There were some spectacular advanced quilts, where every point was perfect and the quilting enhanced the design. For me the best in show (it was not to be judged) was a male African lion. He was beautifully rendered and the quilting was of other African animals. I do not know why I did not take a photo of him. |
That sounds like you both had fun!

It is fun to see what non quilters see. I am always amazed at the fabrics and quilts that someone else thinks are beautiful.

Sounds like a good time

I went to my first quilt show by myself and my second one. Will probably go to the next one by myself also and that's ok. I got to move at my own pace. So happy you both had a good time.

i went to a quilt show this weekend too. i too heard varying comments like the ones you heard. Some concentrated on color while others on design. A LOT of machine quilting, and McTavishing. I think 2 were hand quilted. Some were so heavily quilted, and pretty, but i know not warm. They were all very pretty, I must say. Maybe next year I'll put one in a show.

I have traveled with friend to quilt show and we usually separate because we have different interests, we do meet for lunch. Two years ago my daughter and of my sisters when on a shop hop..my sisters are nonquilters so it was interesting to watch them. We had so much fun...last time we traveled together..lost one sister this year..
Enjoy each other when you can. You don't know about next year. |
Sounds like a fun time for both of you!

My husband mostly goes for bright colors and bold quilt patterns. While I tend to lean to more muted colors and less dramatic quilt patterns. Also he loves anything green while I am a purple lover.
