Great news for quilters/sewers in the Houston, Texas area. The Wal Mart at I-45 North and Louetta Rd. will continue its fabric department. I was there yesterday and the lady who cuts fabric told me. They basically have the same items as always.

Great news for you. Our local Walmart discontinued their fabric department. They only have a little condensed area with pre-cut fabric packets...I don't like these...I like to buy larger amounts than little packets.

LOL...no offense but considering I live at 610/beechnut, they can keep their fabric :) But I appreciate the fyi...I just HATE 45 :(

I think the one on Westheimer & Dunvale still has a full old school fab dept too!

The Walmart in Poway, Calif still has a staffed fabric department! I was really surprised as I have been shopping there several times and never noticed it! It is small, but they still have it!

Lucky you! Both the ones close to me are closing!

That's the one.

I don't like I-45, either. When I want to go from Northwest Houston to your area (Southwest Houston) I drive all the way down Shepperd. Not many people seem to know about it.

I worked at the fabric department here in town. When I found out they were closing it, I decided to retire. Didn't want to put up with the 'flack' by working in another department. The LQS here closed, so the nearest is 13 miles away. The husband and I make a day of it when we (meaning me) want to go shopping. I made a baby quilt for the girl next door and DH picked out the flannel for the backing. New mommie still remarks about that. Saw the grandpa on his front porch before it got cold and he had baby wrapped up in the quilt, so I know that one is used and loved.

We were told that at one of our local Wal-Marts too, but it's gone now. The workers may think it will be kept, but eventually it will disappear........just my thoughts.
