October - Spokane Quilt Show
One of my quilting friends is trying to convince me that we need to go to the show.

It's quite a ways from Seattle and we would stay one night. So that would be a 6-hour drive (at speed limit... I would do the driving so probably a little less
) check into the hotel, see the show a bit, fall exhausted into bed and then a couple more hours at the show/vendors before heading back. I'm pretty familiar with Spokane and know the drive very well so that isn't an issue. We are pretty easily amused so the drive time will be fine but my friend is older without a lot of stamina.
Mostly just wondering if anyone from these boards is likely to go/have been in the past. Is it worth the drive? Looks like a pretty full vendor list and says "500 quilts" but sometimes that sort of thing is showing a bunch of children's corner/charity quilts (nothing wrong with that but often not a lot of interesting things for me). If you've been to the Quilter's Anonymous show (Monroe Fairgrounds, Spring time), I think that compares in scale and is a reference we (my friend and I) both can understand.

I have not been to the quilt show but if I were up in WA I would make a quilt retreat out of it. A friend of mine and I sometimes meet up in Vegas - and we sew a lot, then we go to a LQS when we go out for lunch. There are quilt shops in Spokane to check out. So if it were me, I would drive over, get set up at a hotel, if there is time, check out a local shop, next day go to the show, after the show, check out another shop, then back and sew for a while, spending the night and next day if the show was good return. There is something about going to shows make me want to shop and sew.

Good points Quiltingcandy... maybe we should do two nights but I don't know if I can convince her, her husband is in rather fragile health. Plus we are both inherently cheap! For us this is more of something to do rather than a fabric buying trip. Not a high cost trip as it is, about $200 total for both of us including gas/hotel/admission maybe a couple of snacks but meals would be on top of that. I haven't checked the vendor list but I'm guessing most of the local shops will have booths -- but there may be other shops along the way.
Camano Island would be a bit of a trip to go to the QA show, but not bad if you are figuring out a time to visit with the Sis! Here's the link to it:

QA has a number of nationally known quilt artists and book authors as members. It's the largest annual show around here. There is always something there that awes me. My typical (admittedly minor) complaint is that there will be several sets of quilts that were made in classes by one particular teacher with a particular style, and all the quilts are so similar I can recognize the designer immediately. But on the other hand I went to a small show recently and there were a number of mystery quilts the members there did. In those there was a large variety of fabric styles and colors along with different layout options and I was quite intrigued by how different they were. Took me seeing a couple before I realized they were the "same".

I haven't heard much about the quilt show, though.

The Spokane Quilt Show is a good one! I go every year. Lots of beautiful quilts and projects to see, and a great variety of vendors. I usually make a day of it. It opens at 10 a.m. on Sat. and I stay until they close! LOL Sunday it is a bit slower paced.
