I have completed the "Hatter" quilt top. There are 1,520 2 inch squares in this top. Some are even pieced from two or three fabrics to create the shape of the hat in the center of the quilt. I am going to pin and start quilting on Thursday. Tomorrow it is going to my guild as part of my demo on designing quilts with graph paper.

The center of the quilt... the Mad Hatter's top hat.

had to look really hard to see the hat due to its low contrast----ok, i get it--sort of like camo?

The quilting should make the hat stand out more. I am going to use a narrow serpentine around the outline of the hat in black thread. The inside of the hat will be stitched with greens and blues in a free motion quilting to give the hat shading. I will put 10 / 6 in black on the tag (white). The area around the hat in the center, will have free motion teacups in blues and greens. The outer borders will be cross hatched in alternating green and blue. Should be fun to quilt. I will hang it outside to get good lighting to photograph it when it is complete.

You must have a lot of patience to cut this many squares! I'm not sure I could do it! LOL I really like this and can't wait to see it quilted! :)

Is there any way you could change the squares outlining the hat to a deeper color or even white so it stands out? Or were you going for the effect of having to look like a hidden picture? Love the colors.
