I had a request to do a T shirt quilt from a friends' husbands t-shirts. He has been into baseball for several years and has the shirts to prove it. She wanted it for Father's Day and it finished just in time (around 6am this morning, June 18th, pulled an all-nighter *whew*) I slowed myself down in the process by trying to make sure everything was just like I wanted. She also had a sleeve on one of the shirts that she requested be included, it was a cute reminder of him having to rip them out to fit over his muscles that came from playing. Some of the shirts are a bit worn, and I opted to, rather than fixing, to showcase the worn or missing letters. It is 46x56 with a sleeve attached for hanging since this will be for a wallhanging. I couldn't stand throwing away the remainder of the t-shirts, so I made them into strips and made a tied basket he can use for storage. It will be another gentle reminder of his days of baseball.

The quilt alone is awesome but the basket is so unique (in a great way!). How did you make it?

That is quite the gift. I too, would like to know more about the basket. The cords look thicker than clothesline rope. Great job on the quilt, too.

The basket is from the strips of material cut from the leftover pieces of the t-shirts. I took the bottom halves which were left and cut 1" to 2" strips and then tied the strips together. With those I just crocheted about 10 stitches and then circled back on those stitches and continued in a single crochet - around and around and around.... When it needed extra to round up into a bowl shape, I added an extra single chain. Shape it as you go. I thought about making a rug, but the knots from the t-shirt ends was just too hard for walking on. With them on the basket, it just adds to the look.
