2 more finishes from my tops made from my 2.5" "blah" blocks

These are the two that my 15-year-old son said "They mess with my mind, mom". He assured me now that they are quilted, they don't do that anymore as we can't see the lines that show that the squares are actually "on point".

First I will post the tops and then the finished quilt. I finished these both yesterday. I'm working on improving my FMQ...have plenty to work on but I do see progress since I first started last summer.

Gotta keep working on those wavy borders. I quilted them each differently with the top one using straight line right through the colored blocks and then kind of stippled the outer area. The bottom one was just meandering stippling--kind of large.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

I do have to use poly batting since that is what is available here in Poland. I may have more success on the borders if I switched to really thin batting.

I wouldn't call them "blah" blocks. Both are beautiful. I really like that design. Is it your own?

No, it is taken from a book I have...Quilter's Academy vol. 2, and they call it "Four Patch Chain on Point."

It is really just a 9 patch using the off white as the outer points top and bottom and the colored squares as the other 4 squares and then a chain block which is also a 9 patch but the corners of the 9 patch are 4 patches. Send me a PM and I will tell you more in detail if you want to know.

The quilts turned out great. You took "blah" squares to great very well. FMQ does take practice but worth the effort.

maybe "blah" individually, but like a chorus, when put all together, they make a wonderful melody! Pretty quilts!
Oh, and fwiw...I also seek 'perfection' and want "flatness," but you know, the more I look at quilts, the more I think that wavy just adds to the charm of a "quilt." It's supposed to be like that!
(Oh, and you have a neat meandering FMQ style; I like it!)

Both are really pretty. Isn't it funny how we may think some fabric is not so great and when you put it together scrappy it turns out quite wonderful Thanks for sharing.

Maybe not, but these blocks were in a bag that I hadn't used up last fall. I had previously used up the most interesting ones to make other things. I decided last fall to use them all up (2.5"), and thus, I named it my bag of "blah" blocks.

I had seen plenty of neat blocks/prints on line of people who made SUPER NEAT and fascinating scrappy quilts. My blocks were basically uninteresting, sometimes solids and sometimes just 'nothing' types of fabric--just fabric that was 'there'. That is why I called them "Blah"...they weren't particularly beautiful or fascinating prints.
