I ordered a 99k with a case off ebay and prior to the auction ending contacted the seller and requested he pack it well so it didn't get destroyed in transport. This is how it came.

For clarification: I bought this through ebay and paypal and the seller resolved the issue immediately upon notification of the damage. I had contacted him before the bidding ended to tell him that I've had one of these cases ruined already in shipping and please be sure to pack it well. The purpose of this post was a/ to note how fragile these cases are, especially with how solid the machines are! It's sad to see something that has survived more than 70 years be destroyed by poor packing, and b/ as a warning so if you end up having one shipped you can clarify to the seller BEFORE it goes out what "well packed" means for this type of merchandise. Unfortunately if they don't deal with these machines regularly "well packed" can mean news paper and bubble rap, which does work for a lot of common items, but the pictures are the result with these machines.

It almost looks like it could've been in that condition to begin with...?

Oh, goodness, so sad. You need to contact the seller so they can make it good. Since it was probably damaged in transit, they can get some of your money back.

Oh no! I am so sorry - can't believe the seller thought paper & plastic was sufficient packaging material. Are you able to file a claim through e-bay?

I am so sorry for you. I have seen this happen way too many times. Is the machine in tact? Or is the bentwood case and machine totaled?

I would contact the seller and say the machine and box arrived in damaged condition and you will want your money returned. If it is ebay contact them also and you should get your money returned or the seller gets a bad rep. Do not settle for this!!! Seller should have know how to package this machine. How deplorable!!!!!!!!

(Well, we'll see if this post is allowed)

You've got pictures.
Save the packaging.
You paid via PayPal, right?

Contact the seller and tell him the situation. ALL contact should be via eBay messaging, not email.

See if he's going to make it right.
What right means to you might not be the same to me.

So, do you want to keep it with a broken case? Do you think
that's worth 50% of the price? Do you not want it at all?
Do you want a total refund? You need to know what it is you want.

Do NOT agree to send it back at your expense.

If you're not happy with the discussions, then file a claim with eBay as SNAD (Significantly Not As Described).
(I'd probably do this anyway.)

And then let the claim process run its course.

Also, was the payment via PayPal funded by a credit card or PayPal balance?

You will probably get all of your money back - as part of the charm of the whole package was the intact case - including shipping. And if you have to return it, that shipping cost as well.

Sorry for your disappointment, but there is always another machine out there if you don't want this one.

Good luck!
