Found it with my Mom's things. I'm reasonably sure she didn't make it.

The seams of the wedges are about 1/4 inch and they are pressed open. I think they are machine sewn. The plate appears to be appliqued with embroidery floss.

Can someone name the stitch that was used?

That is called a coral stitch. I have a book that has all those stitches by hand in it.

It was one of the ones we learned in 4-H and it was called a Feather Stitch.

Until then I thought all embroidery was just the plain crewel line stitch, french knots and satin stitch. We learned a whole bunch and did a sampler runner to showcase each of the stitches.
