Anyone ever feel like abandoning a project
#1
...even before it's half-way done?
This stupid quilt looked so much better in my head than it does cut and pieced together. I'm so disappointed I can't be bothered to finish it.
I had tons of purple fabic, so I decided to make a purple scrappy, I was gonna call it "Disorder in Purple, a lesson in color selection" but the more I sew the less I want to finish it. I just want to get rid of it, pretend it never happened and start something else.
AARRGH.... has anyone else have similar experiences?

are you kidding? i feel that way about half the stuff i start. why do you think i have so many UFOs?
do two more blocks to make it square. slap a border on it. use it as a practice piece for quilting. then name it "The Bruiser". Or "The Grapes of Wrath". Or "This is What Ate Gilbert Grape".
unless you like it, after all, when it's done. then you can name it "My Amethyst Surprise". :P

What kills me is that I used some really awesome fabrics in this, a few irridescents, a couple of silks, AAARGH! Now I can't use them in something else that's nice!

Set it aside. Do not look at it or think about it for 6 months. If you still don't like it, give it another fallow period. I have been known to pass things on unfinished when I could not accept the colors or values I had used. Someone else can love them, or they end up as potholders.
Another thing I have done is cut blocks like yours on the diagonal, and sashed them in another color. The original blah blocks could breathe and show themselves off next to the plain sashing.
If you want to try that, before you start, fold along diagonal, and place over a soft yellow, or maybe blue or cream. Play with the width, too.
I think you will end up surprising yourself.
I forgot who said this, on the board, but it has stayed with me as a great truth:
Not all quilts are going to be heirlooms.

I realize this one isn't THAT bad, and since I've only ever made 2 before this, it's not a huge tragedy, but I would be embarrassed to give this one to a thrift shop like it is... Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Yes, I have but so that I didn't leave something unfinished I made it into a pillow! Mine was purple too! It turned out pretty nice as a pillow just wasn't going to work as a quilt. Plus I didn't feel like I left something unfinished. Just a suggestion!
P.S. The dog liked my pillow...lol
