I think they're very pretty, but the solid black is throwing me. Do you have a layout plan I mind that will make the solid black make sense?

Photocopy your blocks, shrinking the size by, say, 25%, and making enough of them so that you can do a mock layout using the paper blocks. This will be quick, easy, and give you some instant gratification that will keep you piecing these great blocks you've already started. You're doing a wonderful job!

I love log cabins. Love yours except the solid black piece. I really think it needs to be a print. but if you like it , it is yours

I agree with Friendly Quilter- perhaps you might consider using the solid black as a narrow border or as the binding to tie the quilt together, especially since you do not have all of your blocks made yet. Looking great so far, Be sure to show a picture when finished. One way you can have an idea as to how several blocks look together is to use a mirror and this will reflect the blocks or use a camera. I always lay my quilt blocks out and take pics, then see where I need to make changes. Since I use my digital, I can view them right away and not have to wait for prints, or just viewing through a camera lens. My camera also helps to see how I had a pattern laid out in case I can't get it completed right away, I also use the small colored dots - many use on garage sale items and pin these to blocks for certin rows etc. just a few hints that work for me.

Your block, fabrics, look great except the solid black. Stick with your prints. Solid fabrics stick out and draws your eye to it instead of letting your eye roam to the other fabrics.

Love this B&W log cabin I am into the blacks and whites together now and I am working on one for my granddaughter but not the LC pattern. Anxious to see the finished quilt.
