Wow Lara. Very impressive!!!! So, you cut the flowers out and then shaded them with Inktense pencils? Your hollyhocks are exquisite. I will have to look that technique up.

Thank you so much everyone! I was very insecure about my SIL displaying the quilt and you gave me a boost of courage.

Cindy had her dining area repainted and wanted a quilt for the space above her sideboard. Here is a picture of the plate she loved for its colors. You can see why I used a dark blue background, which isn't your usual sunny bluebird garden scene... LOL

I know that's a lot to ask.....you did such a beautiful job, so inspiring!!!
Thank you Pollytink! And Everyone!
To answer your questions:

The bluebird is cut from three fabrics - a bluebird blue batik (had a hard time finding just the right color), a beige batik, and white. Those were layered together and fused with Heat and Bond. Then I used the inktense pencils to add detail. And i waited until the entire quilt was quilted before sewing the bluebird on, because i didn't want it to fray from handling.

Unfortunately I cannot remember what lines any of the batiks were from. I think the dark blue was a Hoffman hand dyed batik.

The Hollyhock fabric was found on eBay. And I did not have to color the blooms much at all, because they are already highly detailed. I did find a listing with the Hollyhock fabric in the gold version. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Painted-HollyHock-Flower-Blossoms-100-Cotton-Fabric-/160565908563?pt=US_Fabric&hash=item2562795453<o></o

And the border fabrics were a charm pack of Barbara Brackman's Morris Apprentice....drool drool.... I love her fabrics!

The fabric to make the fence slats is from Quilting naturals. I found it again on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quilting-Nat...item3cc4ee1e87
