Thank you Tartan for the advice about the binding. I did stay stitch the edge prior to putting on the binding, so now I think it may just be the minky factor and will have to stay as is. I have pinned it down in place on top of my bed and ironed it lightly with some improvement.
Ruthrings and KLO - some of the books are actual fabric as in the outer border, but each of the other books are appliqued in place so I could round the edges before stitching them in place. Each book has a title - most of them copied from her bookshelves at home and some of them are "written" by her children with appropriate titles for them. Even her husband has one titled "How to survive living with Gingers" - my daughter and granddaughter are both red heads and give him a challenge at times.

That is just fabulous. I did a bookcase quilt, too, but never thought to appliqué the books. I machine embroidered the titles, but yours are all so distinctive. Really great!

Most definitely a thoughtful and creative bookshelf quilt...she's going to cherish it.
I'm curious to know if putting minky on a cotton quilt top will always get wavy as I am contemplating using it on a baby quilt but have not had the courage to do so yet.
