I agree with you that a plainer border might be better. Less busy and will show off the beautiful blocks that you've done.

I think I would make triangles pointing out with the dark fabric and the triangles pointing in with light fabric.

I'm new and far from expert, but I like the idea of a solid border. Maybe blue if a boy or pink if a girl. I also like the idea of a different color border for each edge as someone suggested.

Maybe a narrow 1" navy border then a wider in whatever or leftovers from the quilt. The thin navy would provide a break for the next border. Btw, it is a knockout quilt for a baby, the bright colors are great when they start focusing their eyes, my son the DR. tells me.

Do you have a fabric print that has all the colors in it? Something with a white background but maybe dots or something with the multiple colors?
Personally, I am not a fan of "solid" solid fabrics. I like a little something in it, even if it is a tone on tone.

To me it calls for a solid border. That is a beautiful quilt. I love the scrappy stars. Great job so far.
