When I constructed the watercolor floral log cabin, I kept wishing the block ended with a floral, rather than a light. So I drew it out, made four to play with (when one doesn't have EQ6 one must use graph paper and crayons  ), and am thinking it ought to work. There are 15 pieces vs. 17. I measured it at every square along the way--and it's fine.

But will I like it as much?

Your thoughts?

The original.

My idea.

Do you think it'll make a big difference in the end?

I always thought that a log cabin block should only have 1 small square block, not 2. I like your idea for the blocks better.

I really like your idea- and setting it on graph paper- I'm visual too!

Hey--thanks! I knew you'd all give me good replies... like the one center square observation. I never thought of that. I had to cut one light strip at 1.5" for the original... the rest are 1" cuts. Mine seems more traditional I guess. And since no measurements have changed I can use all that's leftover from the last one (or I wouldn't change!).

I think I'll like the next floral log cabin better than the first one! :D

I'm a graph paper person, too.

I (sometimes) get inspired on how to put it together when I'm drawing things.

Don't know why it wouldn't work.

Does it matter if the first piece added to the square is a neutral or a floral?

I think it has to be a light--skinny strip.

Why?

(As a teacher, do you like the "why" asking students - or do you sometimes wish they'd just sit and hush?"
