Default Chemo Quilt - I'm Too Sexy for My Hair!!

Finished the chemo quilt for a friend today.

Size 70 x 54 (aprox)

No "pattern". I purchased 7 different blue/white/yellow prints that complimented each other and cut them into 2.5" strips then pieced it "jelly roll race" style. I then drew a woman in a sexy pose and printed letters on my printer (several attempts to get just the right size) and traced those out. All were then fused on and stitched using a machine applique stitch. Quilting is stitched around the woman (with some highlights on her head, hand, outline of knee, toes ... and yes I gave her 3 pubic hairs!), and outlined each letter. The remainder is just a large stipple except I wrote two sayings in there ... one is "Cancer Sucks" the other is "Fight like a girl". The label I made on my embroidery machine with the perfect saying for this quilt (purchased from one of the online sites). The back and the binding are the yellow fabric with blue flowers used in the front of the quilt.

I REALLY wanted to finish this today ... I was putting on the binding and I got 3/4 of the way through before I realized ... DOH ... I was sewing it to the back instead of the front!!! So I winged it and folded over the binding to the front and just stitched it down - certainly not the prettiest binding I've ever done but I couldn't bear the thought of ripping those stitches out and re-doing it ... I needed to get this quilt mailed to her (in CA) as she's having chemo now ... not a year from now!!

The quirkiness of the quilt fits the owner. When she told me she had cancer (3 weeks ago) her first conversation was about wearing crazy wigs. She's had her first treatment already and had a BIG party to cut her hair, then she wore a purple wig for a week. Her current profile pic on FB is a pic of her with no hair - it's ALL gone already. Her spirits are high and I want to help keep them that way.

this is an OUTSTANDING quilt, your friend will love it. I can't think of a quillt that I like more than this one just because it is so reflective of cancer today. Thank you for sharing.

First, your quilt is wonderful and second, what a great friend you are. Now, I would like to wish the best of therapy to your friend. She is obviously a fighter. Tell her many of your board friends are praying for her health. Marci

I have been waiting for the finished quilt. You made an amazing, ingenious comfort quilt! One to give her a good laugh, and when she takes it to her treatments it will bring comfort and humor to others! Fabulous!!!
Prayers and good thoughts to your dear friend.

Thanks everyone. This is by no means my best quilt ... But its a very special one (not to mention my quickest). I only wish I could give it to her in person and deliver it with a hug.
