Oh, but paper piecing is the only way to go if you want sharp points. I've made many New York Beauty type blocks and know this to be true.

I also tried a NYB - ONCE, the points came out great the but the curved pieces did me in. Even with help and encouragment from this board, it still was a disaster. yet I can do Drunkard's Path with no problem. Go figure.

Way to go quilt Mommy!!!!! You did a great job! I can't wait to learn paper piecing. The kids in your class are lucky to have you as well as myself.
