Are the white dangly things tight together? if so, I would use it to hang my rulers with. Slide the hole to hang the ruler up with between the two white balls on one hanger. If it holds fast enough I would keep going. I got a large ring with a hanger on it to hold mine but it is a pain.

I googled images of every thing that was suggested and the picture you have doesn't come up. It appears it isn't a dental tool, lace maker, crochet counter, scarf holder, tie holder, etc., so it must be a "thingamajig" like was suggested. If you ever find out what it is please let us know. (It would be funny if it turns out to be a decoration from something crazy like a car visor!)

Maybe it was a dental color matcher thingee that was repurposed by an quilter for use as a bobbin holder? You know how us quilters love to repurpose stuff. LOL, just kidding. I'm leaning toward it being a scarf holder. If not that, it's just gotta be a thing-a-ma-jig.

it looks to me like stitch holders for knitting. each one can come off and you put it in bewteen your stitches on the needles. I have never seen any like this before though.

I'm sold. My mom's cousin from Chicago had one like this, and that's what she used it for. I've seen many, many dental shade guides, but none in a "keyring" style, and these little balls aren't different shades (from what I can tell in the picture, anyway.)

I have no clue, other than what a Dentist uses to match color of teeth.
