Thought you might like to see these. My Grandmother made the doll quilt for me probably 1947, it has a bad mildew spot on it, don't know how to get it out. The other was probably from around the same time. I treasure that little quilt and it brings back fond memories from living on the farm.

How special!

Saw another thread here earlier that had some hints on taking carre of antique quilts. Maybe someone can find the link for you.

I love them both, especially the Rocky Road to Kansas! I'm working on one of those now. Here's a helpful hint on removing mildew. It's from http://quilting.suite101.com

* Mildew. A form of mold, mildew not only stains fabric, it actually eats away the fibers over time. Take the quilt outside to brush off the mildewed area, so you won’t breathe in the mildew spores. Pretreat the stain by gently rubbing Ivory liquid soap, Orvus soap, or detergent into the stain, then wash as usual. Dry cleaning may help with stubborn old mildew stains.

Hope that works! :D :D

Are you saying that the doll quilt pattern is called Rocky Road to Kansas? The other piece that she quilted, I don't really know what that was supposed to be, maybe for a table. Thanks for the mildew information.

Yes, here's the link:

I absolutely love this block and have been wanting to make it for a long time. I started one last month and have two blocks done!! Also, I think Tide detergent is the best for removing stains. Put some Tide directly on the spots. You might also try "Borax." I love Borax! It's gentle; has no chemicals, is mild and effective around the house. I make my own liquid soap with it. I think it will work just as well as anything else.

Your welcome! Yes, the other piece was a Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern just made to be used as a table topper. :-D

Aren't you fortunate to have these wonderful quilts that your DGM made for you? Both are beautiful and to be treasured!
