Oh, Vicki, I like yours too! Either one is welcome at MY house! I, too, printed out the instructions and have it in the TO DO file!

what size did yours finish at? and can you add more blocks to enlarge it? i looked for a finished block size but didn't see that info. what is yours?

would you call it intermediate or advanced? i know you're advanced but i'm not, so i'm thinking this may be too difficult for me without ripping my life away.

last question (i'm really picking your brain today): she talks about shirting on this one and other ones in the past. does she really mean men's shirts, which are tightly woven, or women's shirtings which are really like other cotton fabrics, only striped? i find men's shirtings to be almost like sheets.
butterflywing: I did mostly do the steps in order and started a few days before the New Year.

Mine finished at 74" x 87" once I added 5" borders. You could certainly make more blocks if you wanted the quilt bigger. And/or add more or larger borders. The finished blocks are 9".

I'm only a beginner, but I didn't find the pattern very hard. Challenging for a beginner, but Bonnie's instructions are very helpful.

I believe the shirtings she is referring to are reproduction of men's shirts from the Civil War era. Someone else on the board may have a clearer description.

On a side note, Bonnie does have a great book that explains how she repurposes old cotton shirts, etc. to make her quilts. http://quiltville.com/scrapsandshirttailspreview.shtml

Thanks for all the comments quilters, you make me  !
thank you for the answers. i every time i se a great quilt i want to do it. of course, no one has the time to do them all, but i would love to do this one. you've done a really terrific job.

    Chele,

I would consider that quilt a challenge for an experienced quilter. I would not attempt all of that peicing. You did a great job.

Chele my dear, I think you have proven that your status is no longer that of a NEW quilter - you are an excellent in the least Intermediate quilter!!!

BEAUTIFUL! As if you would do anything that would not be in this category.

Thank you for the compliments...my daughter in N.C. had asked me if I wanted to do it with her...we do things together alot this way, even though we're a few states apart. She hasn't even started it yet. I figured if I didn't get it done right away, it wouldn't get done. I haven't shown it to my grandson yet, but I know he will love it. Doing a mystery, you don't know what you're doing till the end...I guess my picking the masculine pallet must mean that this quilt was meant for him!

    Chele,
Your quilt is pretty marvelous, as always! I love looking at your work. So precise! I'm blown away, again!

I'd skipped a page here and just found Vicki's quilt. It's amazing the difference color can make. both quilts are wonderful. Hmm. Wonder if I missed any others here. Gotta go look. Keep up the great work!

Chele and Vicki, they are both beautiful! Chele, I can't believe you call yourself a beginner. I'm going to have to try this one myself.

Do try this quilt...I've only been quilting for about 5 years, and that was only intermittantly until the last 2 years. She explains it so well that you shouldn't have many problems. This is the first quilt I've ever done on the diagonal...and found I really enjoyed it. Good luck to all of you wanting to make it, you'll be glad you did.

Vicki--your quilt is gorgeous too. Isn't it amazing how different fabrics can make a quilt look so different?
