What a fun day we had!!!! My step-daughter came to our quilting day for a lesson. We used the tube as I wanted her to be able to go home with a completed project. She was so keen...and asked at the end of the day if we can do this again...and could she try making a "real" quilt!!! LOL I think it helped that a couple of the gals had quilts there that were ready for binding, or just in need of an outer border.

My mom sent us some money to get her a C'mas gift, so we added some to that and bought her a sewing machine. This is the first opportunity she has had to be able to really use it. I think she initially agreed to come today as a favor to me...and surprised herself at how much fun she had. I brought a LARGE selection of fabrics for her to choose from. Interestingly, she bypassed all the bright, funky colours, and went for the softer florals.

Now she is talking about where will she put her machine in her room at college. :) What do you think....did she get the bug today? :D

She has phoned me twice, and her dad once, already today with quilting questions. (Yes, her dad sews too, and often helps me pick colours for quilts.) Interesting that she knows herself well enough, that wants to do a fairly simple lap quilt so she knows she will be able to finish it.

Beautiful girl and beautiful block, she sure has the hang of it. I hope she stays with quilting, such a good hobby and pastime. Keep encouraging her and she will keep at it. Good for both of you.

Wow, love the quilt block, she did a great job. Yes, if she wants to take the sewing machine to college, yes yes that way she can have fun and who knows other students might like to learn to quilt also.

I have been quilting for a while so I thought I knew quite a bit. I'm afraid though you lost me with tube. What is a tube?

Beautiful pics and story....I love it how quilting can keep families close and teach the next generation a beautiful and useful craft.
