    Default FMQ Fun with Paintstiks!

Here's a pic of a piece I'm working on; this will become the front of any eyeglass case. I started with a piece of dark red Mayfield Shadowplay, quilted a feather on it with bright orange thread, then used an orange Shiva Paintstik to highlight the feather.

It was a lot of fun, I love the way this looks, and couldn't wait to share!

Jan~On this one I used some bright orange thread that I bought at an S.A.S store in Phoenix. It came on what looks to be a 3000 yard cone that cost me about $2.00, and doesn't have any info on it at all. S.A.S. is a warehouse type store that sells what looks to be leftovers and old stock from manufacturers and commercial sewing factories as well as full bolts and rolls upon rolls of upholstery fabrics, trims, and fancy dress fabrics. When I shop at S.A.S I'm pretty choosey about what I buy, but I've come away with some great bargains on some really high quality stuff. They also have a lot of not so great quality stuff, so I'm careful about what I buy. When I buy thread, I unroll a little from the spool and run it through my fingers to make sure it feels smooth and not too linty, then I give it a "break test" to make sure it's strong too. Their prices are way less than half of retail, so for me it's worth a little time sorting through what they have to offer!

All that being said, my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE thread for quilting is Superior Thread's new "Magnifico" line. It's a "trilobal polyester" that has a beautiful sheen, comes is around 200 GORGEOUS colors and stitches beautifully. No lint and no breakage ever! I love that stuff! I just got a color card with sample of all the threads and sometimes I just take it out and admire them!
